Hi,
I'm finally going to be picking up my first sled, and I've narrowed it down to getting an RS Rage or an Attack, but will probably go with the Rage for financial reasons.
Now, I have two local dealers, one of which has 06 leftover rages, and the other has 05 leftover rages. The 06 dealer wants $7000 plus tax, and the 05 dealer wants 6400 plus tax. First of all, I wanted to see if those were decent prices, and I also wanted to know which would be the better choice. I know the 05 would need the CDI, clutch, and possibly jackshaft updates. I guess my primary concern is the difference in the rear suspension. I don't know if it's worth the extra money to go with the 06 and it's monoshock setup, of if the 05 suspension will work just as well.
Another piece of information is that the dealer selling the 06s is a longtime yamaha snowmobile dealer, whereas the 05 dealer just got back into snowmobiles this year, and bought the stock of another dealer. He actually has some brand new SXVipers and 04 RX-1s! He sold yamaha stuff before, just not sleds, so I am a bit concerned about the ability of his shop to work on the sleds and prep them right.
So, 05 or 06? Thanks!

There is actually a big difference in the rear supensions of my 06 and 05 Vectors...I think the 06 is definetly worth the money. Incase you didn't know, with the 06, you can adjust the rear suspension on the side of the tunnel which is a big plus. My 05 Vector is a real pain to adjust. Either way, they're both great sleds, you'll be happy.

For what you are paying you could get an 06 Apex or Attak, add the new bars and you basically have an 07. Some really good deals here on used 06 sleds unless you prefer the 3 cyl. engine either way go for the 06.

I have a '05 Rage that I bought last Dec. as a new holdover. I paid $6400 for mine at that time. As far as if you should buy the '05 vs. '06 that really depends on what you want and if you want to have to work on dialing in the suspension. The monoshock in the '06 is going to be a little more straight forward and a little easier to get to ride the way you want it to. The proaction in the '05 is a more complex system that is harder to get dialed in. It is not impossible just takes a little more work.
I love my sled......but I would like to have the monoshock as well. So I guess it is just what you are looking for. IMO the monoshock is worth the extra money, but that is up to you what it is worth to you. You would not be disappointed with either sled. Just make sure that if you get the '05 you have all of the updates done (clutch, jackshaft, cdi).
