As I have stated in earlier posts I had a high level of track noise last year but only after I had about 600 miles on the sled. This last fall I had a rail and tunnel extension with a 136" fully clipped Rip Saw Quiet track installed, which was at about 2,500 miles. After the new track the noise was gone, all I could here was the wind and motor. However, within the past week at about 3,300 miles the noise started to come back and at 3,500 miles it was really loud. The only change was the slides, which were worn just where the bend started in the rails. Today I replaced the slides, which were almost gone at the bend but just find everywhere else? After the new slides, no more noise. So now I know what has been causing the noise and now I am going to add some more wheels and the next set of slides will be Hyper Slides. I don't know why my slides worn so fast in that one spot? I run my track loose because I have external drivers.

I am haveing the same problem with my quiet track! I have gone through 3 sets of slides in 1800 miles and the majority of the ware is in the bend.I even wore through the bolts that hold the slides on last time.I did not have this problem with the closed windows last year.It seem's to really hold more snow in my opinion. The hard pack snow in the morning is the biggest problem for me the guys behind me can smell my slides burning.I ended up cutting a 1/4 inch off my rip-saw making it a one inch or slightly less but I havn't tried it yet.If nothing else it should be even quieter!

Neither one of you mention the sled you are talking about or the year. I take it track nut is talking about the 05 rage.

I had terrible track howl and 300-500 mile hyfax life with the stock Vector 1-1/4" ripsaw. I tried a fully clipped 1" track this year and added an extra wheel at the bend. The track howl is much less and now acceptable but the hyfax wear is still very very bad. I rode all groomed trails last week which were mostly new snow covered or loose. Always had visible snow dust behind me. Hyfax only lasted 800 miles. From the front wheel to the rear wheel was wore to paper thin. None of the other guys had any hyfax wear at all.
I talked to several other RS and RX owners along the way with the same problems.
Why can't Yamaha fix this hyfax wear issue ?
I love the engine but I am ready to start adding 2 stroke oil next season instead planning trips based on where Yamaha dealers are so I can get the hyfax replaced.
The sled I traded on this Vector had 5200 miles on the original hyfax and was showing no signs of wear.
I am really frustrated. Are these sleds only for deep powder riding ?

Interesting. I just replied in another thread about hyfax wear. I also run my track loose, but all of the wear as at the rear of the skid. The hayfax look like brand new at the front bend where my last sled wore them the most. My hyfax are the originals with a little over 1500 miles on them and the rear portion is about half worn. I realize that I don't have the Quiet Track, but that shouldn't increase the wear.

My sled is a rage But I also have an M-10 in it,Last year I put 1400 miles on the sled with that skid and the original rip-saw track and could have easily put 2k on those slides but this year the snow has not been as good but still it is three times as bad.My last trip the snow was preety good,we did 520 and the slides would probably go another 500 if the conditions are good we'll see if cutting the track down a 1/4 will help, it sure won't hurt.My buddy has my old viper M-10 sled with over 2k on those slides and they look brand new still which makes no sense other than the closed window track? I guess by the time i figure it out I will have bought a different sled!

It may have something to do with how the snow is held in the chassis. I have been riding for over 30 years and the conditions I rode in last week were good.I would never have even thought of a hyfax wear problem with any other sled I have had. This sled destroyed them in 800 miles. We were always riding in enough snow that the next guy could not follow real close from the dust.
Maybe after the huge 100 lb. ice blocks form in the tunnel the snow can't get into the track and sliders.
The guy that went with us put new slides on his Ski-Doo also. When we were done they still looked new and mine were totally gone.
