Hi guys, was riding the rage this weekend and blew a belt, change the belt and sled started making a grinding noise when clutches engaged that is going from the right side of the sled. after messing around and checking for anything obvious it stopped making noise. drove 30 or so miles and started making the noise again, it sounds just like chain grinding the gears, no noise at idle, noise starts after clutches engage and sounds horrible, bad enough that I had someone come get me with a trailer. sled runs and moves fine, don't see any play in the shafts, it DOES NOT make the noise in reverse. Before I pull the chain case cover was wondering if anyone had any ideas. thanks in advance.
Sled does have 10,000 miles on it.

I'm grasping but did you check your chain tension?

I have a 05 vector with 11,000 miles.. It started to make a metallic noise this fall while up on the jack stand.. Traced it down to the left side shaft bearing.. It was 75% destroyed. The new one comes with a plastic cover to keep dirt etc. out.. The whole thing costs about $35.oo bucks.. Now it's quiet again.. MM. ;)!

Did u check the 3 pucks on the secondary?
I don't know much about the clutches but what are the pucks?
They are the black plastic parts that the helix slide on.. They are about the size of a finger nail.. Did you make a primary chain adjustment ? If so did you run it in until finger tight then back it out 1/4 turn and lock it down ???? Good luck. MM.

UPDATE: I pulled the chain case cover tonight and found the driveshaft bearing failed and sent metal all through the gears, none of the gears look damaged but all the bearings are shot. Anyone know of a cheaper place to get those bearings beside yamaha?

All balls make a upper and lower shaft kit. Comes with all the bearings to do the jack shaft in one kit and the other kit contains all the bearings for the drive axle. Just did both my brothers warriors this summer. Jack shaft bearing behind clutch can be a bugger but doable.

You could try Royal Distributing.

That's the one that was bad on mine................. MM.

Approaching 8000 miles. Will change all bearings next Fall. But I do grease my speedometer bearing often. That is the only reason it is still alive.

I tried to cheap out once (All Balls kit) and paid the price 2500 miles later with both chaincase jackshaft bearings puking. The lower drive bearing was not in good shape either. All 5 bearings got replaced with the Yamaha Toyo (high quality) bearings.

Save your pennies on idler bearings....don't try to cheap out on bearings that will ruin a trip, weekend, ride with your son, etc.

Just my .02......it's your money!

What he says. Place genuine OEM bearings in the more difficult areas to get at. A short trip to the states from the sault, if you have access to parts there, will save you some money. However, probably not worth the time and fuel to save a few dollars.

You do not have to go to a dealer for quality replacement bearings. Do a search for bearing suppliers and just pick a good quality bearing from them, They usually cost a little more than cheaper bearings. The key words are "Made in China" = JUNK.
