I would say you are in need of a revalve. I had the air rese's on my 06' and while it did allow me to run higher pressures while still maintaining a lower rise in spring rate, I had no issues with the original "firmness" of the shocks. If you are at 50 psi and still feel the shocks are too firm you will need to revalve. The air is the spring and the valving is the bump absorption system. Since you already revalved your rear shocks I would now valve the fronts. The air rese's may be an option later to further enhance your suspension but I think it will only add confusion to the real issue at this point. Since you can buy them and add them at any time (no rebuild needed). Another option would be to add clicker rese's and get the Float X functionality. This would allow you to dial in the compression you desire based on trail conditions. If money permitted, I would go this route, and it doesn't have to be dual speed clickers either, singles will provide you with enough to get what you are looking for.
