The last fox shocks I had were on a mid 90's Polaris.

These shocks needed a rebuild every few weeks. [1,000 miles or so]

Since then I have had Yamaha's with Kayaba's, Ohlin's, GYTR's none of which except the 2006 Ohlins mono hardly ever needed a rebuild.

Are fox floats a needy high maitenance shock like the old ones or pretty much a long time between rebuilds shock.

My brother got over 4000miles of HARD riding before he got them rebuilt on his 06Nytro.After the rebuilt they were as good as new. These floats are built to yamahas specs so they are more durable than arctic cats ones.

They will be fine, two years/ 3-5 thousand miles depending on your style and your good. If you just cruise, you could probably go the life of the sled.

how much to rebuild them

I've beat mine pretty good, and they're holding up fine. I think they're great!

Familiar with the earlier Fox problem. They had some wimpy shaft seals that would allow ice, frozen to the shaft, past them. They were fixed around '01-'02 when they lost a ton of business to the Ryde FX shocks.

Wouldn't surprise me much if many/most of these Floats aren't going to be pulled down anyway - knowing Yammi's reputation for valve stack technology. Seems like they're working on a lot of other issues. Would be really nice if they've done ANY homework here as well!!! They have this sled built up with such a high degree of technology now, and to date, they're shipped with 3rd grade level valve stack tech.... I don't think state of the art would be expecting too much here? With what these things are going for, people should be demanding it!

Bullett proof , have not heard of one issue ,

( except air leaks caused by riding buddy's jokes ! )

I just had mine revalved for $60 each at Pioneer Performance. Just a rebuild I believe is around $40-50

From what i have heard, yamaha approached fox with their exact specs which are quite different than CAT. Fox then builds them to a different standard. My floats on my 06 RTX held up great. I had 4000 miles on that sled and they still held 95% of thier pressure after that. I rarely had to touch them or add air over the years.

thanks

How do you know when you need a re-build? just if it dosent hold air for the front and if it leaks in the back?

I was told by Bruce at Pioneer Performance the Floats are charged with Nitrogen and will leak off over time. I had over 3,000 miles on mine before taking them in but I was more interested in having them revalved to better suite trail conditions in my area.

Thanks Guys. Sounds like they are good now.

Think I might try one of the SE's if the Demo ride goes well and the seat is not too tall for my 28" legs.

Every summer, I go through and clean/lube mine; like the book says. Granted, I only have 2,000 miles on them, no problems. I do recommend cleaning them. You wouldn't believe the dirt you get out of the seals. I also run Fox Float guards, due to Arctic Cats problem of dinging them. I can't afford to replace them from something as stupid as a dent/ding in the body, causing a loss of air pressure.
