my last sled was a cat crossfire 7 sno-pro with the floats, at first I did not like the floats, but after puting a few hundred miles on them, and dialing in the right amount of air pressure for me, I now really like them. I also service my own shocks, and do it for others as well, you just need a competant shock rebuilder to do them, they are no harder than a regular shock. I have no issues with the quality of them either. they work best when you adjust the air pressure to be very plush, the air spring is VERY rising rate and it is tough to bottom out, even with low air pressures. the most psi I ever needed was 60, and I like to air it out over everything.
ps the fx nytro rtx is pretty sweet, just might pull the trigger on 1 this fall.

the floats flat out rock over the ohlinns and gyt'r.

I agree I would take the floats over any other type of shock any day. For me I just like to get and ride, and fiddle around with all different adjustments. And this is what the floats do for me. I just set the air pressure at about 60 PSI and I am good to go for the stutters and big bumps.pro116 said:the floats flat out rock over the ohlinns and gyt'r.

I had a set on my rev for two seasons and loved them. I'll probably put them on my Nytro MTX

Actually, Kenneth Ohlins has repurchased the shares that Yamaha had owned and now it is 100% privately owned.
That being said, I hated the Floats on my F1000. I wouldnt buy a sled with them ever again.

I have the opertunity to ride many different sleds with of course many different shocks. I really like the fox floats on heavier sleds like the apex and the f-series cats, however I absolutly hated them on lighter sleds like the nytro.
For what its worth another opinion to really confuse the issue.
I can also say that one of the best out of the box rides I have been on lately is the 40th apex ltx with the ollins all the way around.....definatley an extemely good ride.

Revalved the nytro shocks to a more compliant ride like the apex and it made a huge diff. in ride quality ,and still don't bottom. stock they are very stiff.

I'm ditching my Floats and going back to coil shocks. They just don't cut it for jumping big.
The Floats that came on the '08 RTX are pretty basic. IMO, they don't compare with the reservoir equipped, compression & rebound adjustable RTX rear shocks. IMO the Floats were only installed for eye candy and weight savings. Float Evols would have been a better match. From what I've seen in racing, the Evols have held up just fine and you don't need to buy springs to tune for different race courses & conditions. Of course you can still add too much pressure (spring) and get outside your valving envelope even with the dual clickers.
Thing about suspension is you can always make it better thus you are never satisfied.
