I took my front shocks off my 2007 RS Vector GT to send in to get rebuilt. This is the 1st time for me as I bought the sled used. They (the re-builder) ask that you remove the springs, but I don't see how that's done with this type of shock with the reservoir. You can leave them on, but the shipping will be more. Is it easy to do without special tools? Should I send them in as is?

When I had mine done I went through the same dilemma . Ended up sending them to Carver and he took care of it. It appears the top of the shock has to come off.

fastdave,

unload spring pressure using nuts as much as you can. You will then realized that the bottom spring seat is fork like, so the slot allow you to take it out thru the shock's rod. That done, off the spring. Just be careful on the black knob adjustment.

If you have Pioneer rebuild them, you can just send them complete and they will take care of it.

aVenture. You were right. After releasing the spring tension (it was really hard to get the tensioner nuts started), I removed the forked ring retainer from the bottom. I just took the clicker knob off completely, otherwise the spring wouldn't clear it.
The re-builders prefer that you remove the springs to save weight for shipping. They'll do it for you and charge the extra shipping if you like. Man, I love this site. Thanks guys.
