So...I took my Viper out for a ride Friday night, and noticed when I got home that the fuel gauge was showing full, which is impossible, as I was at a 3/4 tank before I left.

The cap is on tight, I've taken it off and put it back on a few times.

Any ideas? Bought the sled at the end of November, here are my issues so far:
  • None of the recalls were handled from the dealer I purchased from.
  • Battery with the sled was no good, had to buy a new one.
  • I brought the sled to a local dealer to have the recalls done.
  • I get the sled back, I don't even get to use it yet and the starter breaks. They forgot to do one of the recalls.
  • Now I've got a stuck fuel gauge.
I'm honestly really disappointed with all of the issues I've had with this sled already, and I've only been able to put 60 kilometers on it. :o|:o|:o|

Did I buy a lemon or something? Definitely was not expecting this when making the decision of going with Yamaha.

Just tried to take the seat off, but no...whoever put the bolt on the back of the seat at the dealer must have used a drill or something. I stripped the bolt trying to get it off...Err...

Yeah the seat bolt is a biotch. You have to use the correct torx size it is the Z wrench in the tool kit not the screw driver with 2 ends on it. Even when I put mine in easy the next time it is tightened right back up hard.

That's what I used, still stripped it.

Dang it:o|

There is a thumb screw conversion out there sveral guys are selling on here or go to fastenall they have a screw with a knob end on it.

So I managed to drill through the screw and take off the seat (took almost an hour for me to get through the sucker). Messed with some wires and it now shows about 98% of the full bar, whereas before I believe it was just a full 100% bar. Is it possible something got stuck? Should I try filling it up completely and seeing if that changes anything?

When I filled up I put in 91 octane.

Octane would not affect it and no need for 91 unless you want non ethenol. Mine is so touchy when I unload from tilt trailer it reads empty then goes to 3/4

Don't replace the bolt. I took it out of mine and left it out for 400+ kms so far .

I never had any trouble. I pounded in over a 55 km road full of yes mams standing and back out again with no troubles with the seat with no bolt.

Is it possible the dealer filled the tank for you? Some Vipers can take 3-5min of run time before the fuel tank will show full so it will show 3/4's when you first start the sled and then slowly go to full.

The tank is no more than 1/2 full, I had ridden it for ~30kms after it was on a 3/4 tank.

I'll run it until it gets really low and fill it up again and see if it works out.

I noticed mine was a little sticky at the start, slow to respond. A few fill ups and you should be good.
