Fuel relay sticking in cold weather fix

Go to your local Napa and purchase a AR614 relay. It is a little bigger and will fit in with some minor mods to holder but will not freeze in the coldest of temps. I have one on my grizzly 700 and apex with no cold start issues.

Is this relay totally closed? How long have you been using it? I am only having problems 2-3 times each season when temps drop below -25 celcius.

Anywhere online to order the relay?

Thanks

fuel injection relay

the updated fuel injection relay from yamaha is only $10.00. Myself and a few guys have replaced them this year and all good so far, even down to -30C. Should probably buy the new holder as well, the tabs tend to break when you pull the old relay out. The holder is only around $4.00

If one could figure out how to purge the air out with nitrogen and then seal it trapping the nitrogen that should fix these relays from sticking. There is no moisture in nitrogen and that is assuming these relays are air tight. If they are not air tight that is just poor engineering.

Part number???

sorry, I never kept the paperwork. My dealer just ordered it for us. The new relay is a little larger in height than the original and does not have the tabs on the sides.

According to the Yamaha part catalouge these are the part numbers:

New (Updated): 8HG-81951-00-00

Old: 8FP-81950-01-00

I will be getting some new backup relays for my sled also..

Apparently using di-electric grease on the connections when installing the new relay helps a lot.

I've put this on every electrical connection on my Nytro..keeps the moisture out and gives me peace of mind.

Yup I have the "updated" relay for the phazer in my hands right now and the only way i can see moisture getting in is from where the prongs are, di-electric grease seems to me like it would really help.

for what it's worth, my dealer mentioned the new relays use a cold temp lube on the relay contact arm that prevents freeze-up at cold temps. I'm waiting for summer to install mine as I've yet to have cold start issues and don't want to break any Yamaplastic in the cold.

guys, just a question. We have 4 Nytros with a total of 14000km. No issues with this. BUT, we always store indoors. Do you guys having issues store them outside?

My phazer is always stored inside but the times my relay froze up was on a trip and needed to be outside for the night.

My Nytro is stored in a heated shop. Mine froze up on me this past winter when I was on a 3 days trip where it was left outside. At the end of day 3 we stopped about 45 mins for supper and when I came out relay was frozen. Couple seconds in the hand and I was gone again. I replaced with the updated one and have not had a problem since.

What relay exactly are you referring to (there is more than one I believe)? I had one that needed replacing the 2nd season but don't know if it was updated or not.
thanks,
