I am an idiot... I reinstalled my carbs after re-jetting without setting my fuel screws to 2-2.5 turns out from seated. Crap.
I am not 100% sure where these are... the instructions says that they are "ahead" of the float bowls, does that mean that they are on the cylinder side, or the airbox side of the carb slide?
Either way, I guess I have to take the carb rack off again to make the necessary adjustments.

motor side, best to just pull them carbs to do it.

start at 2 and give it a try. @ 2 1/4 mine ran very rich, at 2 they are perfect.

I just adjusted mine to 2.25 turns out and the thing is blubbering like a 14 yr old at a wet T-shirt contest.
The bottom end is really sluggish, lots of farts and pops until about 30-35mph, sounds/performs terrible.
Must be rich I guess. Did you have the same symptoms?
Do you know what the stock setting is?

Did a re-adjustment and now the fuel screws are at 1.75 turns. The bottom end is much cleaner and now it only has a gurgle at 5-6k rpm. Is this gurgle something the rest of you have experienced, or do I still have a problem?
The other thing I found was that my filter pods were not perfectly on the intake spigots. I overtightened the hose clamps and part of the rubber flange slipped out from underneath the clamp as a result. Oops. That's fixed now too.
Mid range appears to be real strong now, I have only the gurgle that is bugging me.

try 2.5 turns, 5-6000 is were the needle takes over. need richer on the air/fuel screw to get you over that point. junkie

You really think I need to go richer? It's 7*C here now (40*F -ish) and I am at Sea Level. My plugs do look a little biege-brown at low speeds.
Do you think I have a lean bog/backfire condition?
I am hesitant to adjust it again, but I have to get rid of the annoying gurgle. Too bad I have to pull the dang carbs every time to adjust!

Yes, I did have "gurgles" at 2.25 turns, when I went to 2 turns, I still had a few. I checked my coils, and that was the problem. I have one bad coil. Dielectric grease and the problem was solved. I would check your coils also. Plus you will need to have them synced, it makes a huge difference, especially at low rpms.

Good point on the sync, I will try to get that done tonight as well, but I wouldn't normally suspect a sync issue when talking about 5-6k rpms; I would have thought the idle speed would be more affected by that. My coils are fine, I have put dielectric grease on them before and the sled worked fine with the stock airbox, so they're OK.
Hopefully the sync will help me out a lot, that gurgle is really bad.

at that rpm i believe your just between the air screw and the needle jet. i believe you are lean. i had that happen when i was messing around with different adjustments. you can spend the money on remote mixture adjusters, but once you get them set, you shouldnt have to adjust again. at our local field its +500ft so you should be right on at 2.5 turns. junkie

A-ha!
2.0 turns and she's pretty good.
The big problem was that - on the recommendation of my buddy - I drilled out one of the brass
knock-outs located immediately forward of the fuel screw when I couldn't find the damn fuel screw initially. I was working in low-light and the coolant crossover tube was blocking my view of the
actual fuel screw.
After making an adjustment to 2.0 turns out from fully seated and sealing up the brass knock-out (that I drilled in error), the thing goes like stink.
Happy again!
