Fuel Shut Off (full tank trailering)

How did that automatic fuel shut-off work on the Yamaha sleds back in the late 80's and early 90's? I never checked into that. Or was it some advertising scheme?

So Blackjohn you are saying that if I trailer with a full tank no fuel will flow? I wonder if I could check this theory by pulling the two vacuum lines off carbs 1 and 4, then run the sled till the bowls are empty and it dies. When I reach my destination with the hoses still disconnected it shouldn't start if no fuel refilled the bowls, if the bowls did refill it should start and run till empty again. Someone want to try this and let us know what happens.

These valves will not have an affect on your sleds top end. when you run full throttle your not drawing so much gas that it goes from the line directly into the cylinders it is more of a cycle, carb bowl fills, engine draws it down it does this over and over. you would have to have a real pig on gas to worry about shut off valves slowing ya down.

Back when automobiles all had carbs(some of us may remember that) I had an old truck the float stuck on the four barrel and the gas diluted the oil. and when you run an engine with diluted oil,it isn't long before you here alot of unpleasant noise. I got my shut offs, I just think $30 would be cheaper than an engine should this actually be an issue... Just my 2cents

JUST TO CLEAR MY NAME HERE!!!! The fire in my sled was caused from the starter. The starter wasn't turning fast enough therefore the solenoid overheated and burnt the wiring. The inside of my K&N's ignited from fuel vapors when she backfired after it finally turned over. So let's get this #$%&* straight. I never procrastinated since I never had a problem. But if Yamaha had a need for them than I think they would've put them on therefore enough said. However I will be putting them on :!:

where did you get fuel shut offsand are they 1/4 or 5/16

whow about the size of shut offs & are they high flow :4STroke: :rocks:

Do a simple test. Rig up a jug or 2 liter bottle with fuel line coming out. Fill it to certain mark with water and let it drain through the fuel line and time it, now add a shut-off in the fuel line and time it again.

Here is some info from a post last year when I installed 2 of these shutoff valves on my Warrior, I put 2800 miles on it without any fuel flow problems ;)! 8) :flag:
