Sled pricing

But like I said above - 9k (what people are getting base Nytros for) is NOT a lot for a sled in this day and age, especially considering what these babies bring to the table. See my post, see Yamanator's post. I don't like it - but it is what it is, and it won't be changing. Top of the line sleds have been 8k plus for a LONG time now.

I agree with you there, top of the line sleds have been very pricey for a long time now. I am sure they will sell lots of them also as they do bring allot to the table. I'll ride my Warriors for another year or so and see how the Nytro's have faired and maybe pick one up then. After my boys came home talking about this sled I have got to ride one!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about spending more than 10k for a sled that now is getting crazy, you can buy a damn KIA car now for almost the same money, these things are not being made in the US with unions, I mean seriously how much do they cost to make and ship :ORC

No shame in riding a Warrior for another year or two - people (myself included) get caught up in the whole "WOW IT'S NEW IT MUST BE BETTER" factor. New technology does make older stuff obsolete, of course. I've read at least a couple posts saying how the old Yamahas feel like a pooch compared to this. But that doesn't make those junk by any means.
I won't be buying new, either. Not only do I have a couple more years to go, I (usually) don't buy any motorized vehicle new. Left-over or slightly used is the only way to go for me.

I won't rehash what I've said about the 10k thing. But I don't care that they are not being made by unions. I want the BEST for my money. Yamaha makes the highest quality sleds on the snow, and they last. When American OEMs can do that, then I will look at them, too. Call me Octane Jr. Look at Ford and GM - people are finally catching on to what I've been doing for the past 15 years - putting my money where the quality is (toyota, honda, nissan). I work just as hard as the people in the unions; it is not my responsibility to buy lesser products for their job security. If that is your choice, I respect your right to it.

ALL of these things are overpriced toys. 6k or 10k. Motorcycles, bikes, boats, snowmobiles. You have to base it on how much you love the sport and if it is worth it for YOU.

This is a good thread, with good points. If you want to talk more about the whole "buy USA" thing, start a post in an off-topic forum. I'll happily chime in.

Thanks, J. I just don't want people to think they HAVE to pay 10k or the sport is useless. Yes, I'd love to snowcheck a Nytro too, and I could. But sometimes, you have to put other goals first. If you want to pony up the money, good for you. If you have a sled already, riding it for another year or two probably won't kill you. If the price is still too high, there are lots and lots of good used sleds out there.

I'm not sure how we got off topic here about what to buy but I too use to beleive in buying what I wanted. Now after being in the business world for many years I'm changing my way of thinking, and buying. Just look around you; what do American's make anymore?? Take a look at Michigan; It's about ready to hang up the closed sign. It's not just about the American auto industry going down the tubes. It's about taking a state with it. Look at all of the business's that are touched by the american auto industry. The company I work for has over 5,600 accounts across the state and they all seem to be touched one way or another. Either dealing directly with one of the big 3 or dealing with people that are employed by one of the big 3 or they are doing business with someone that does business with one of the big 3. I personally know 3 people that worked for suppliers for the big 3 that lost their jobs because their company either folded or left Michigan.

There is alot more technology in the fx nitro than the current efi models. The computer now controls the engine braking and i believe the rpm also.

It's got one less cylinder then an apex. That requires one less everything in the fuel system exhaust and motor makeup. I think that can fund the little Engine break gizmo!!!

Comments like yours only justify the outrageous pricing.

We've only been doing it to ourselves since '04. I don't have time to weed thru all of the "dream sled from Yamaha" and "what do you want to see in [next year]" posts at the moment.

I can say that american truck are still number one and I don't ever see toyota or Nissian taking that away. Japan makes some good products but I would personally never buy a truck or automobile from a japaness company.

That will change, the more global our economy becomes. People will start to look at a bigger picture as their dollars start to buy less.

When this becomes a common occurence, then I will. I would LIKE to buy American, but oftentimes their products are not up to par quality-wise. Quality hasn't been job one for a looooong time. And I'm not saying all American products are crap. I do think they make good trucks, too...

Unions make it too expensive compared to outsourcing. I should also add - healthcare costs also add significantly to this.
