Wife just got me a Garman 1450 Nuvi for christmas. Is this gonna work for mount on snowmobile? I'm new to GPS! Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Almost the same question. I was going to get a nuvi 500 but got a 1350 instead. Just too good a deal this weekend to pass up and I hate the small screen on the 500 to use in the truck. Do I still need to get a 500 or something else more waterproof?

Can you actually download maps to a nuvi? I thought they were only for road use.

Unit is not waterproof. You cannot save your tracks. You can download maps into the 550, not sure about the 1450.

I have teh Garmin 1450 and installed a chip from www.sledgps.com that has all the snowmobile trails from all over teh US and Canada. Most trails are on this chip and is very accurate. Cost is less than $50! I simply put the GPS inside my tank bag's map pouch to protect it from the weather. It is easily viewable through the cleare map pouch and with the larger screen it works awesome. much cheaper solution than buying the weather proof GPS and a much nicer screen.

I have a Nuvi 750 (about 3 years old). I can download maps and transfer to the Nuvi. It will save the last 1000 miles of track (which can then be transferred into Mapsource). I use GPX2IMG (3rd party software) to create my own "clear" maps to overlay on the topo map I run, so that I can see my important tracks.

They probably won't last long if the screen is on all the time. The 08 Nytro was not wired for the 12 volt accesory but it can be added. The fuse box has an empty keyed 12 volt socket that is used in the newer sleds for the feed. A terminal end and lead wire needs to be installed into the block before adding a 3 amp fuse. You can pick up a kit at Yamaha or get it cheaper at your local auto store. It's a little more work to run the needed wire into the the fuse box but at least it's done right. If you're not worried just tap into the battery. There is an empty outlet just waiting for the 12V adapter an the left.

I'm looking at the nuvi 1450, my Triton 400 is shot. Can i put topo maps on the 1450?

I want one that can be used in car too since I only need it on sled for when I'm storm bound and trying to get out.

Can the 1450 load topo, I converted my gpx files to my Magellan and loaded the topo maps with no trouble so I have an idea what I'm doing.
I can get the 1450 for 88 bucks shipped, which seems like a good deal.

Here is what I use.. waterproof...Lots available ebay...mount on handle bar

I use my Nuvi and LOVE it. This is my first year with a Yami and was going to ask about the clear tank bag thing. I was going to get a usb power converter for the assc. socket.

I use a Griffin PowerJolt Micro plugged into my outlet. With it I can power 2 devices via USB. iPhone/iPod, charge GoPro. My Garmin is hardwired. I bought a cig lighter adapter, took it apart, made my own board, soldered into ACCY outlet circuit (steps down voltage). Nuvii s can be nice on the trail when you need emergency gas - lots of POIs pre-installed.
