There has been a bit of discussion, but no real details about these belts so I thought I'd set up a quick reference.

40G series denotes the std unit

40C series denotes the carbon cord unit

4313 is the 8JP dimensional equivalent 1.406" (36 mm) top width 44.25" (1124 mm) circumference

4340 is the 8DN dimensional equivalent 1.375" (35 mm) top width 44.625" (1133 mm) circumference

40C4340 is the carbon cord 8DN equivalent

Now I can only assume that the compound is the same for the carbon series. Someone with better belt and clutching knowledge could comment which would be more desirable based on the dimensions. It is my understanding that the 8JP has a different compound than the 8DN hence the popularity of the switch to the 8DN.

Initial indications seem to be that the carbon cord belts tend to improve top speed, but also affect operation RPM causing a need to adjust clutching to lighter weights.

Curious how many people have been able to simply put the 8dn belt on and have it sit perfectly in the secondary without having to shim it? After I got more miles on my gates belt Saturday I just checked last night and all 3 belts (gates, 8jp and 8dn) sit within 1/32" of each other in the secondary. For those that do not need to add shims to make the 8dn work will likely not see any speed gains by using the 8dn. As for the compound, I heard from a mechanic that claims at the yamaha school they discuss the 8jp and 8dn belts and they are a different compound.

Looking at the dimensions on the gates belts the width for the 8jp length compared to 8dn length is 1mm, circ is a decent amount different, how do the widths of the actual 8jp and 8dn compare?
