Hi, I bought a flawless '06 Apex GT in January. I've put 800 miles on it up to now. On the last ride my gauges stopped working correctly. I stopped for gas, filled up, and when I hit the trip reset the red and yellow light came on, along with er_1 and the number 64 on the display. I don't know if thats coincidence, but seems weird. The er_1 means gauge pod malfunction or bad connection between pod and ECU. The sled still runs perfect, no other issues. We kept riding and it would work off and on. The more we rode the more it wasn't working. Now at home I've checked all the connectors from the pod to the ECU and don't find anything alarming. Now the error and lights come on every time. Any ideas? Think my gauge pod is bad? The tach, and speedo, don't work at all when this happens, but my heated bars and thumb warmer still work fine.

Wow the sled has some low miles !!
You said you checked connections ,also make sure there is no green going on (corrosion) if so clean the green and add Di-electric grease.
Also check back of gauge where the plug goes in,
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I got it all tore apart right now. Pulled all connectors and they look fine. I even separated the pod itself to see if any moisture got inside, but it's dry and clean. While riding it would come and go, but now in the garage wiggling the wires and connectors I can't recreate what was happening, its not working at all. Ugh....
Check the fuses ,never know ?
It maybe your gauge like you said..

A little more info as maybe I didn't give enough details...
When I say not working, i mean it lights up, does the sweep, and looks fine for the first 5 seconds, then the er-1 pops up. While riding, none of the display functions were working, but, the gauges were lit up, speedo stayed at "0". Tach had no movement. While riding it became very sporadic..working, not working...basically it looked like it was going bezerk. I only found a couple posts on here describing the same thing. One said the connector behind the cluster didn't have the boot seated correctly and the dealer blamed that on the pod going bad (moisture got in). When I tore into mine today, my boot wasn't seated either, and the day this happened was warm with wet snow. I don't know. Pods on eBay are $400. Another's post, a corroded ecu connector was to blame. Mine are all clean.

I would pm rockmeister. He helped me diagnose two broken wires in my wire harness by the coolant reservoir that rubbed through. I lost my lights that through the er-1 code as well. Rock has outstanding patience and customer service.

Good idea, thanks. I did install Yamaheaters 3 days after I bought it.

Found some corrosion on the plug between the two 10amp fuses in the front. I pulled the fuses to check them and they looked fine. Then dropped one which ended up going down under the engine. Had another in my stash.
Didn't get enough back together to see if this helped yet. Going to check the speed sensor tomorrow night. Rockmeister did respond to an email I sent. What a great guy! I'll keep ya posted.

Only one of the two 10amps fuses are being used. The other is a spare. If you take a close look you can see there are no terminals under the fuse that is closer to the engine.

Well, checked the speed sensor and there was nothing wrong there. I reassembled everything and I still get Er-1 and Er-2 taking turns flashing at me. I'm thinking it has to be the pod. It just seems too coincidental that pushing on the trip reset started all this and that it was a warm wet day and my boot behind the gauge pod was not in. Plus I can't find anything else. Looks like we might be done for the year anyway, but, hopefully I can "borrow" a friends pod and see what that does. I'll keep updating....
Thanks for the replies.

Anyone know if the sled miles are kept in the ECU? If I put a different gauge pod on, will my miles still be right?

Yes the miles are in the ECU from what I've read here.

Rode 145 miles yesterday. Yellow and Red light lit the whole time, as well as no tach, speedo, odometer, or grip settings, but the fuel gauge and hi-beam light were working correctly. Sled still runs perfect. I'll post results when I get a different pod.
