Ok, we need some help. We took the last ride of the season today and were blessed with a couple of feet of powder. Nice wet heavy stuff. My wife on the phazer was having trouble in the deep. She was complaining that it was slowing down when she would go WOT. You could even hear it, it would bog right at about half throttle. I took it for a spin and it was nice and powerful at first but then wouldn't hold RPM at all.
I am thinking this is going to be a clutching issue, but I don't know where to start on the yamaha. Any suggestions? I can't believe it is just a power issue as I also have a Tundra 550 with a bigger track and 15Hp less and it doesn't suffer like this, it at least holds RPM (admittedly not breaking any speed records).
Or should we be looking at gearing?

Unless your clutches are realy worn I would look elswhere. Have 7000 miles on mine in all conditions and have never had this happen. I have had similar bog issues and turned out to be mt air filter saturated with water from excessive steam created by snow entering engine compartment and melting. Also you may want to check all drive axel bearings, my lower drive axel bearing on the clutch side was dried out after first year I rode it. It is not greasable by a zerk fitting, it must be pulled out and done by hand. I only caught it because I put a new track on it the second year and found it out on dissasembly. It is now a yearly thing I do every fall(pre winter maintanence) If it goes out it can wreak alot of havok. It could also be your injectors?? Possible blockage? Good luck.

This machine only has about 300 miles on it and my wife says she has seen this issue from the beginning and just thought it was how it should be. It feels like a car shifting into a higher gear too quickly and loosing RPM if you know what I mean. On other sleds I have always heard this is a problem with clutch setup.
I would not be surprised on the air filter though. I will also take a look at the drive train. May need to check the track as well for tightness. If anything I would think it is loose though.
Also, just looking at your avatar, there is no way I could get the machine to jump today and no way anything like what is in your pic.

It does sound like a clutch issue but it would have to been screwed up at dealer??? FYI secondary clutch spring position is B1, with a set of snap ring pliers you could pull it apart to check. Maybe your primary or secondary spring broke, this could create these issues?

I am going to talk to the dealer about it tomorrow. Tough one to test under load during the summer of course.
What is a good resource for yamaha clutching? Anyone like DJ for Doo clutches? Who is the "Go to" so to speak?

Clutching on these machines are pretty good from factory. I don't think i've ever heard about bogging due to factory setup, I have heard of over reving but a little heavier rivets in primary weights cure that. If your parts in clutch aren't broke you have some other problem.
