2008 FX Nytro
I am looking to gear my nytro for more top end. I am running stock gearing and find it is geared to low. I am curious to see what guys are running. I have tons of clutch parts for clutching the sled. So its a matter of figuring out gearing. I had a SRX before and looking to play with the nytro to see if I can get the mph close to it.

Don't waste your time. I would first recommend doing a search as this topic has been beat to death. Short track Nytros are just not top end sleds like the SRX...I had a 99 so I can compare. I've also geared my Nytro 22/38 and it was a waste of time....made zero gains. I've got full bolt ons and am making 18hp more than a stocker.
Nytros have a horrible approach angle which doesn't help for top end. I have the Star Suspension 128" relocate which drastically improves the approach angle, which in theory should help top speed, but it still runs 101 mph. If you want a Nytro to run top speed like an SRX, then you need to add boost with the gearing, NA won't cut it.
The fact is, shorty Nytros are 100 mph sleds and gear has little effect on them, especially if you're a guy weighing 200 plus pounds. I know that sounds weird, but Ulmer advised me on that, saying the lighter guys who have geared have seen slight gains, but for heavier guys it's a bust. Most guys that gear go up one tooth on top, so from 21/39 to 22/39.... but you have to go to a 70 link chain....but again, the gains are minimal.
You also have to look at the difference in chassis....SRX is built for top end, Nytro was designed as a ditch banger.
I hope this helps.

This wouldn't work for people running large lugs or ditch bangers, but wouldn't changing to 10 tooth drivers be the cure for both issues? I would think it should help the approach angle along with give you a large amount more gearing for top speed. Just my .02

When you changed gearing did you clutch for it? I am asking because when you make a gear change you have to clutch for it. I have a collection of weights and springs kicking around to tryout. When I had my srx which was 2001 I got the primary machined because I ran it on asphalt. I will be doing the nytro clutch also. I might actually not need to gear. But just checking to see what everyone got out of gearing them. I totally understand what you are saying for suspension and it makes sense.

XTX models are found to be quicker than the short tracks due to the approach angle of the track being less.

Yes I was clutched prior gearing, and I reclutched after gearing. My sled was way faster prior to gearing. The best part of a Nytro is making it fast to 1000-1320ft.....with the right mods they are a beast in that range. If you want a 2000ft type sled, a shorty Nytro is not the right choice.....Apex would be better suited for that.

Ya my problem is I am stuburn. I will be testing to see what I can get. I will need to get some gears and a chain.

If you run 22/38 gearing you can run the stock chain. I have both those gears if you're interested in buying them.
