ok, I am tearing my sled apart to get it ready for winter and I am debating on gearing and clutching it. So I am looking to gain some more top end without loosing much bottom end. I know this is hard to ask for but would like to know what I can do. should I gear and clutch it or just gear it and leave clutching alone or clutch it and leave the gearing alone. any input will be appreactiated.
thanks

There are a lot of variables to your question. Like whats your gearing now, whats your elevation and are you hitting the rev limiter. In my sig click on the gearing to speed link and play with it until you find out what kind of top end you want but remember your engine has to be able to pull it to that speed.

my gearing and clutching are completly stock and I am at sea level. I am currently not hitting the rev limiter, and I am not looking to get the top speed of an apex, just a few more mph.
I think what you need to do is some clutching and leave the gearing alone. Clutching can make a huge difference in the performance of a sled.

Not to hy-jack, but would the Ulmer clutch kit ALONE really give you an extra 10 plus mph? That is the claim on their site. Not doubting the numbers, just looking for some input on what others have done to a bone stock sled.
I am new to the Nytro this year and haven't ridden it yet, so trying to set it up before the snow flies!
Thanks,
Dave

I've been toying with the idea of changing my gearing. I saw a thread where Ulmer tested 4 different gearing combos..21/39, 22/29, 22/38 and 23/39...in a nut shell....Nytros are very sensitive to gearing changes and conditons, also rider weight plays a big factor. Another friend of mine said 22/38s worked out well in some sleds he had clutched and geared..and these were stock sleds. Since I have an extra 15hp I may try that combo as it seemed to be realyy good for acceleration and top end. I'm already clutched so it will be matter of playing with the weights to get it back in into the right rpms. Allen Ulmer gave me some great advice about this...he said that gearing may be great in some conditons and not so good in other, and could actually slow the sled down. The other option was to run my sled higher in the rpm range as my sled makes peak power up to 9200 rpm. Food for thought.

Re: 10 mph
Go to http://www.ulmerracing.com/, select clutching, the go to FX Nytro. The graph at the bottom of the page. Stage 1.

You won't gain 10 mph with our kit and we will not tell anyone that you will gain 10 mph. The sled was simply run to a higher MPH on that particular dyno run. With the Ulmer Racing clutch kit you will gain 3-4 sled lengths in acceleration and 2-3 mph on top end.

I was just commenting on what I thought I read on your website. Thanks for clarifying.
