Hello guys....... I came to this section of the site for some help from you guys that are running a S/C or turbo system on your sled...Which is making alot more hp then i will be but here is the thing - in 2 weeks i will be having G-Force Division install there new "yamcharger"on my sled..It will add 20hp to engine. I drive a 06 GT that came with a 24 top gear..I have since changed it to a 23 top gear..I didnt think the sled could pull the 24 with the hp it had..The 23 seemed to work better for low and mid range but i think i lost abit of top end..Now G-Force tells me to put the 24 back in before i bring them the sled..Do you guys think that this is the right thing to do //or should i stick with the 23 ??? Which is the better gear to have ???
....Thanks guys !!!!
....Thanks guys !!!!

Here is what I would do.
Mark off 1/4-1 mile.
Get a gps.
Run it with 23 top tooth
Run it again with a 24 tooth.
Do the same thing racing another sled thats kinda close a few times each way to get a baseline.
You decide.

If you wany balls out top end go with the 24. If you want quicker acceleration run the 23. What is more important to you...top end or better acceleration?

When you gear your sled you MUST clutch to that gear. On a stock Apex I have tried both and equally clutched the sled with the 24 tooth gear will run away from the 23 tooth gear every time especially mid to top end.
On my S/C sled I ran a 25 tooth gear all last year so I decided to try the 24 this year, wrong decision as it made me spin even more on the bottom and took away all my mid acceleration top end was much slower getting there. Just my 2 cents

I run 23/38 in my boosted sled....love it even at 16 pounds boost. had my last turbo at 25/38 & lower gearing just pulls so much harder IMO!!!
gearing
I just ordered a yamcharger also. I went to a 23/40 on my stock sled and love it. Was even considering a 22/40 but then I ordered the yamcharger.
I am going to try the 23/40 but I prity shore it will run out of gear. I (think) the best gearing will be 24/40 or 25/40. I like trail riding the best and lower doesn't me slower if your clutched right. I will have to weight my front clutch more and have 30 thousands shaved of my sheaves but I think it will rock.

Re: gearing
23/40 ??? you changed your bottom gear to a 40 from the 38 ???...Also who did you talk to at G-Force ?? Gilles or Danny ??j-mac said:I just ordered a yamcharger also. I went to a 23/40 on my stock sled and love it. Was even considering a 22/40 but then I ordered the yamcharger.

yes its always more efficient to go larger on bottom then smaller on top.
most people dont cause of the cost, due to longer chain in some cases and the bottom gear itself is costly in comparison.

Muskie,
I am not sure who told me to go 40 tooth or if I just tried it. I changed it a year ago and like the pull it gives me on low end.

At 22 psi I run 23/38 gearing at 660 ft .With only 20 hp more then what you got now , the 24 /38 would be to much for 800 ft run.If you like 1500 ft runs then the the big gears would be ok .

When dragracing I agree with Turk and Blue shadow.
For lake and trail go with the stock gearing 24/38 for good top end, go with 23/38 if you're riding a lot corner to corner and top end is not important.
My experience running a turbo is that I lost a lot of top end pull above 110 mph speedo. It took longer to get past 130 as well with the 23/38 at 16 lbs of boost compared to the 24/38, I removed the 23/38 right away. Last season I went to 25/38 gearing, I need more seat time to decide if 25/38 is any better than 24/38.

rxrider,
Alot of guys around here (flat lands )are running 25 or 26/38's to get higher top speeds on the lakes, etc
I am at a cross roads, myself, since the majority of riding I do is just on-trail with corner to corner throttle blasting and less lake type speeds. I crave acceleration so might just go back to the stock 24/38 gearing but not sure if that will actually accelerate harder. Theory that need to overcompensate for track spin...
Keep me posted on what you find...
