I have 03 RX-1 w/ reverse and stock gearing. I want to go down on the top gear a tooth to a 23. Can I use the chain I currently have or do I need to purchase a new chain?

Thanks!

You can do it without changing the chain, but any smaller and you will need a shorter one.

what advantage will that 23 do for you? just curious.... more top end or more pull out of the hole?

Hey guys , my dealer just installed a new 22T top gear in my 03 RX1 and said that the stock chain should be fine. what do you guys think?? Going riding this Sunday but its still in my head ( what if ? ) :yam:

The stock chain is 70 pitch.Im running the 23 top sprocket and tryed to put a 68 pitch chain on it but it wouldnt fit.Stock bottom sprocket.Eventually id like to try a 22 tooth top sprocket and the 68 pitch chain should work perfectly then(better angle on the chain)

Funny thing is on my sled I picked up 2mph on snow and on ice with 23 tooth, plus its snappier in the trail.Thats why im thinking 22 tooth. Both my clutches are machined for overdrive though.

ya that could do it,my warrior is 24-38,gained a couple mph from my 23-38 without machined clutch, the conditions play alot on your top speed to,wind, traction, temp,so its hard to know exactly if you do gain or loose speed

Yep thats why I tried it with stock gearing then changed top gear and went back out to test it on the same hardpack road and same ice road(lined with trees so winds not a factor)but what works on my sled might not work for every sled.Thats what testing is for ;)!

I would ditch the 23 and put a 22 and bite the bullet for the longer chain because it rocks. It pulls awesome , all the way through the bottom to the top and dosn't kill your top end ;)!
