Does anyone know the gearing of an 08 RTX? Also, I thought about changing it to gain a little more on the bottom. How much top end will I lose by doing it though?

21/39 is stock. So you want 20/39 but y there's already lots of power down low

what kind of top end do you have with that gearing? I'm thinking I'm gonna gear down some to go to the mountains, but not sure how much I should go.

With 20/39 or 20/40, will I see a major difference? Whats it like compared to stock, in terms of acceleration and top end? Do I have to change the chain by switching to these gearing combos?

I have got no idea since top speed is not really my thing. All of my riding is either off trail or extremely bumpy and twisty trails at maximum 100 km/h. Though, please consider that the 136" Back Country does require some more horsepower than the 121" Rip Joke. If I would be into top speed, I would not be surprised if I got higher numbers with 20/40 or 20/39 than with the stock 21/39...

One thing to keep in mind is that the 40T bottom gear is very expensive.
20/39 as well as 20/40 will use the standard 68 link chain.

i'm not concerned about top speed either, I'm just gearing down for going up to 9000 feet and using a 136 2" track. I dont know if dropping only 1 gear is worth it, two probably would be better but I suppose that bottom gear is really expensive. I'll ask the dealer and see what he thinks also.

called my dealer to ask him about the gearing for out west. They recommend a 19/39 for 8500 feet. And I guess you can run the stock chain. So thats what I'm gonna do. Worst case scenario... chain case blows up and I get to rent a new M8. which I'll probably rent for 1 day anyways
