I am looking to upgrade my sons sled (16 years old) i have an RX1 that goes pretty good he rides an f-7 its nice but am sick of the oil and fuel costs want him in a 4 stroke but he doesnt want the couch as he calls it i drive he cant beat me but says the nitro is the one he wants - ive heard thses sleds are nice but hard to handle - he rides dirt bikes all summer should i be concerned ? dont want to buy one and have him fighting it he rides my sled and the power scares him he is not agressive on a sled - also am looking to a long trsck model as we run lots of lake ,do 2500 - 3000 a year and he rides lots without me ???? are they that difficult on the trail ? not many in my area so i dont have achance to try one

handling
I have only put 289 miles on my XTX last year but I was able to ride this sled harder and faster through the trails then i have ever done on any other sled. I am a bigger guy so some may say that may have some effect but i came off of a Polaris IQ chassis which is suppose to be a great handling sled and i never had an easy time riding that thing in the trails. A friend of mine also tried it out for a short trail run and had no complaints and he rides a Skidoo rev chassis sled.

I have a 17 year old daughter who came off my 98 srx and loves the nytro. She said she will never drive the srx again. SHe is only 5'2" tall and 100 lbs. She does not ride agresive at all. When I bought it i was expecting her to take the Apex as it is a better ttrail machine but she loves the Nytro. The Nytro is stocl except dullie carbides on the front and the limited strap pulled up one hole. I would suggest getting him one. Shane

If the power of the RX-1 scares him i would not suggest getting him a nytro. i hvae ridden both and the torque of the nytro is more than the apex. i would suggest maybe a phazer if you want him on a 4 stroke. some style of sled just not the same power.

Does he ride motocross? If so going from a F-7 to a Nytro would be fine, the Nytro has fun torque but as a rule top out around 100 MPH and I'm sure the F-7's run faster than that top end last time I checked.
I went from a 450 four stroke MX bike to a Nytro and never looked back..

If you do go with a nytro.
At least try to get a 2009 or newer.
It will be difficult to know who did mods to an 08 front end or if mods were done properly.
And all of the nytro's wear out front arm bushings and ball joints very fast.
A tight front end will be night and day difference on how the nytro handles.

All these things will add $$ to the regular maintenance of the Nytro, plus you have to add in extra sliders and idlers wheels in your equation. This will negate the savings in the purchase of 2 stroke oil.

I ride with people of all age groups and abilities and they ride all crossfires, polaris edge and IQ chasis and my brother has an Attak. Only one person that has ridden my sled has actually liked it. With that being said it is because he like me, likes to ride agressive. The nytro is not a sled for someone that likes to sit.
For a given speed you will work harder on a nyto. My brother can keep up with me most of the time on his attak, but he will work much less. The difference with the nytro is when I give it 100%, it wakes right up and will leave every one I ride with behind (aside from those pesky rev xp skidoos).
Being that your son rides motorcross I think he would be the type that knows how to and enjoys a sled that requires effort.

the power scares him, and he doesn't ride aggressive.
I wouldn't recommend the nytro. I'd look at a vector, easier to ride. If he isn't going to go out and beat on the sled all day he'll be happier with the more "cruiser" oriented vector

what about a phazer???? rides just like a mx bike, tons of suspension for ditch banging..throw $15 in and ride all day.... and its just a riot to drive.. its not the fastest in a straight line but i have no problems keeping up with the big sleds in most other conditions.. and if there are waist deep mogules i am usually waiting for them to catch up.. and im running in the mid 90mph top speed, i hear most of the nytro guys are running 105-110ish so whats 10-15mph for and extra 2-3 grand.. bigger isnt always better..
