1st time I have seen that. I would drill the rivits and add a new piece of aluminum to bolt/rivet the flap to if it is too much trouble to drill out and replace that back plate.

I backed into one too many snow banks I guess. I will have to beware of that in future. Yes another piece of aluminum but how big how far down kind of deal? any suggestions or any "where it is suppose to be" suggestions?

well I would suggest down far enough so that the bolts or rivits are below that other aluminum part. I would say at least 1" maybe 2" below. that looks like gauge thickness aluminum, so I would be using 1/16th to 1/8" thick myself but I tend towards overkill most times.

I am going to rivet the flap directly on that piece it will be higher than the last but maybe prevent this from happening again. Going to drill out rivets get rid of broken piece and then rivet it to the existing aluminum there with bigger heavy duty rivets. I am going for a 2 day trip Thursday so have to pack sled Wednesday don't have time to get an extra aluminum piece. What a job to get all the back plastic off. wow.
