- All yamahas- mt max 700, vmax 600, and RX1 mountain
Hey all, new guy here. I've always been a yamaha fan, have had a few red head triples over the years.
Yesterday I picked up an 04 RX1 mountain. Fires right up but has a clutch rattle at idle. Needs a new windshield and a seat cover but not in too bad of shape overall. 2400 miles on it. Got it for $1500, feels like a pretty good deal.
I'm sure I'll have questions on it as we go along here, being my first 4 stroke sled. I sure love the way it sounds and feels comfy.
Trying to attach a pic but it's telling me file too large....I'll try it anyway.

Clutch rattle is normal at Idle. you can lesson it by raising the idle up some. lots of information on this site. Enjoy!

Not so much the need to re-sync as much as it is to clean the jets considering the RX-1's use small jets, especially the pilot, that get clogged easily. Some guys disassemble each carb while the carb rack is still connected whereas others like myself remove the carb rack but either way the goal is to remove, clean and inspect jets and carb to ensure they are not clogged. Once I finished, I complete the job by re-sync'ing the carbs using a mercury Motion Pro sync tool but others opt not to. Lots of posts on this forum with tons of info regarding this and cleaning the carbs on the RX-1. Congrats on your first 4-stroke.

Thank you! Yeah I want to get it on the snow before I do too much and see what it really wants. I'm no stranger to cleaning carburetors, although these are a lot different than the two-stroke slide carbs that I'm used to. Previous owner said he only ran non ethanol so hopefully it will be good but we will seeNot so much the need to re-sync as much as it is to clean the jets considering the RX-1's use small jets, especially the pilot, that get clogged easily. Syncing the carbs is an absolute MUST do after having them off & apart.
Otherwise you'll never get a smooth consistent idle in the range it's supposed to be. 1,200-1,400rpms hot. Not to mention absolute peak power from the engine.
