Using a Garmin 276C as well. It's a fantastic unit. Nice big screen, rugged and quick at redrawing the map as you travel. lots of waypoints available and tracks too. It is in my boat in the summer, then on my sled with a ram mount in the winter.
Quick note: A friend sank his snowmobile some years ago and it took 2 weeks to pull it up from 35 feet of water. Needless to say the Garmin on his handlebar was destroyed. To Garmin's credit, they replaced the unit with a fully warrantied refurbished unit for a small amount of money. Now that's customer service.
I also carry my iPhone4S with a Mophie battery pack as a back up. And yes the iPhone GPS works perfectly out of Cell range if you have apps that allow you to download data....such as Navigon.
