Grease Fitting Problem

Last year there was much discussion on this forum regardng the lack of grease fittings on the 05 skid frame. Like many, I was happy when yami put grease fittings on the 06. However, I am already having problems with the fittings.

I tried to grease my suspension and one fitting broke off (it was only spot welded). Also, three others would not accept grease. I spoke with the dealer, and was told that they were having problems greasing the suspensions on some of the new sleds - grease fittings were breaking off and some were not accepting grease.

The dealer is going to call yami and see about tapping each suspension component to install removeable fittings. Otherwise the problem will persist. It will be interesting to see how yami handles this issue. I expect it to be a wide-spread problem on the 06 mono shock models.

I hope that yami's response to this issue does not mirror its reaction to broken w-arms - rider abuse.

I just spoke to the dealer. I was told that the skid components are not thick enough to replace the welded grease fittings with the removeable type. Yami is sending the dealer new components (but not upgraded) to replace the ones with defective grease fittings. The dealer was told to fully weld around all grease fittings, which are only spot welded by the manufacturer. This may resolve the issue.

The problem is that if you do not regularly grease your skid you may not detect a problem until after the warranty expires. It will be interesting to see what Yami does with this issue. I hope that they stand behind their product.

This has been talked about here quite a bit.

Last night I tried to grease my 05 RX-1 (with a fully updated skid to 06 specs) for the first time and had the same problem.

The worst two were on the rear scissor shafts. The lower one wouldn't take any grease at all (couldn't get anything out the ends even with my fingers trying to plug up the leak around the zert).

I'll probably end up going the jbweld route (see other posts on this in the suspension section).

I can't believe starting on season two that they still have a grease fitting issue. First year, they did not have any which resulted in worn bushings, second year they have grease fittings, but they don't work. Nice Job.....

J B Weld is great stuff. My son hit my pontoon three years ago sitting in the yard with ski on his sled and punched a hole in one of the pontoons. Used J B Weld and have had no problem with Pontoon leaking.
