Grease Fittings... Who is the bonehead....

Grease fitting

Could always drill and tap another one into the arm. Needs to be fairly shallow though. I had to do that to one I had on my Mtn Max. It still work fine.

that decided to weld them in????

I have a jammed up one on my Rage, besides changing the rear scissor arm are there any suggestions to get grease in this fitting.
If you can get at it with a drill you could try and drill the top with a bit that is a little bigger than the ball in the fitting and the ball and spring will come out assuming the fitting is the reason it will not take grease... This will alow you to still use the fitting...

There is a tool to open jammed grease fittings.
I am pretty sure it is cheap/inexpensive and probably sold at most good auto parts stores.
i will post a link if i can find one

Had a chance to look and found you some info.
The company that makes the tool is innovative products of america. www.ipatools.com

they list 2 different tools that will open
frozen / plugged grease fittings. 1 tool is $50.00 list price. the other is $30.00 list price.
I found a place that sells the $30.00 tool for $19.88.
www.sjdiscounttools.com the tool is part # 7864
Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys!
Found the problem tonight... it wasn't the fitting.
Hole was never drilled through the tube from the factory!

I disassembled the arm and looked inside and I couldn't see a hole or any sign the grease was EVER in there! I used a small wire brush the size of a toothbrush to clean things up to be sure.
I drilled an eighth inch hole from the opposite side of the tube and continued into the rear of the fitting area from inside the tube. It's getting plenty of grease now! I'll weld up the extra hole at my buddies shop tomorrow and re-install the arm.

Guys with "leaking" grease fittings should pull their suspension totally apart and check for this problem!

Oh, buy the way, Yamaha doesn't grease them at the factory. So unless you have good dealer that greased it during set up it will be dry.

i cant believe yamaha doesnt grease these at the factory. i just bought a new 06 apex and never thought of looking at the grease fittings. ill have to do that, but i seem to havea real good dealer so its probably done.

My '05 had no fittings and it was dry, well it had a sticky gray powder. All bushings and sleeves were toast. Friend's '06 Rages were also dry, dealer is still kissing their butts over that oversight.
