Hi Guys! A buddy of mine has had some issues with finding that the bearings on the drive and jack shaft's on his ATTAK were in serious need of grease. I sold my APEX and bought an ATTAK at the end of last season and it only has 500 miles on it.

What has been the experience of the group and how have you addressed the issue? Do you just gently remove the seals and re-pack them or do you replace the whole unit? Does Yamaha have a cure?

Thanks in advance guys! ;)!

Hey shane,

When I had my track out, I noticed that my Jack Shaft bearing was very dry and not too far from going bad. Rather than grease it, I went to the local bearing supplier and bought a brand new one for $14. I think if your going through the trouble to pull it out to grease it...you might as well just replace it.

You do not need to replace! I just pop the seal out, wash out very good with contact cleaner, Get your self a needle greaser (local Napa store) for your grease gun and shoot (some) synthetic grease in to the bearing. Do not fill the bearing full, It will just push it out and get on your clutch's. Do the same with the drive shaft bearing. I checked my drive shaft bearing at 600mi and found water in it all ready, Now i clean and lube it a couple times a season. Remember, Not much grease needed. Hope this helps. kviper

All you need to do is remove the driven clutch, Snap ring i think and seal to wash and lube the jack shaft bearing. kviper

Remove the 14mm bolt that hold's the speedo pichup gear from the end of the drive shaft, Remove the four nut's that hold the bearing flange and speedo sensor, Pop the seal out of the bearing, Wash out the bearing grease lightly and put back together. It is almost that easy. I use synthetic grease because it maintains its lubricating ability wile being mixed with water, And there will be water in the bearing. kviper

Also, while you have the speedo pick up gear out, grind off one of the teeth and your speedo will be way more accurate.
