- 08' Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary - Stretched
I stretched my RTX to 144" last year and used a GYTR Mountain rear bumper when I did. I remember seeing a number of comments how the snow flap tabs are weak on these bumpers and break off. So I made some supports before my sled hit the snow. I had posted pics of them in my build thread and had a couple TY member contact me about the supports. Unfortunately at the time I had thrown away the templates I made to fab up the supports.
Well on the way home from the TY end of the year ride, I tightened a tie down strap on my bumper too much and cracked the GYTR bumper in the trailer. So over the summer I was going to have the bumper welded and re-powder coated. And then I came across another new GYTR bumper for a good deal and decided to just sell the cracked one. So in addition to the snow flap supports I made some side plate reinforcements incase I get crazy with the tie down strap again. The side plates are made out of aluminum plate 0.80" thick. The snow flap supports are made out if aluminum strip that is 1/8" thick that I purchased from my local hardware store. And since I had the bumper off, I remade templates for those of you that are interested. The right and left hand supports did not come out the same as you can see in the pics. I made templates from the left side support which is a little smaller. I bent the supports clamped with some wood in a bench vise using a rubber mallet.
Let me know if you have any questions or wants copies of the snow flap support templates. G.B.
