Sleds a 2015 viper rtx dx. This morning after trailering in a covered trailer in damp weather arriving at the trail I attempted to start the sled and I said to myself, imagine after driving 3hrs it doesn't start (after reading all the starting issues) low and behold turn the key POP STALL AND SPUTTER. Got it started after 3 maybe 4 attempts let it warm up and went for a ride. It started fine the rest of the day, and ran like normal.
Could of that harmed anything like starter or starter gear ? Should I be concerned ?

Covered trailer damp weather would be my guess.

Probably some condensation in the fuel.

Common Viper problem. Getting better with re-flashes from Yamaha. Don't think you hurt anything! You would know if you did!

When it breaks the starter its more than just a pop. You will hear it. It is very loud. When that happens get it checked right away. What they are doing is breaking the case of the starter on the end where the gear is. After that happens its only a matter of time for it to destroy everything in there. Mine is down. Everything is backordered until the end of april.

Did yours start turning slowly before it died? Like maybe a battery getting weak?

My sled is the 14 model rtx without the reflash.
Mine has a terrible hot start issue but only once had a cold start issue. Oddly enough it was after towing in an enclosed trailer.
I started it and let it warm up. Pulled it onto the trailer. Towed it an hour or so. Went to unload it and it would turn over but not start. 4-5 tries. Just cranked and cranked. Sounds simmilar to yours except mine never caught and stalled.
Mine eventually started and ran fine. No issues since.
I attributed it to a frozen fuel pump relay

Thanks for all the replies
I did end up running the sled after this issue 650km with no problems must of been moisture or something like someone suggested, seems to be good.

Enclosed trailers should always be vented as a warm sled in a confined area with water draws in moisture like crazy
