Im getting ready to put a taller seat on my 03 and Im also adding a riser and hand gaurds. My ? is whos running what and how do you like them? was the install of either difficult? did any controls have to be moved? longer cables? I cant believe Ive waited this long to do this, 5mi on my buddys Git-R-Done equipped Apex (who by the way has to chase me to 110 then gets passed again @ 120) and I knew I had to do something. My hips and knees cant take it anymore. The info from this forum has helped me tons as of late (guess Ill re-ring mine in the spring). Thanks to all.

Keep the up side up and the down side down.

riser

I installed a 1 inch riser, low chrome whinshield,05 seat, and sportech handgaurds on my 03 rx1 easy install and much improved. I think you can run a 2 inch riser but any more than that you'll need a longer cable.

You can go 3 inches, easy install, many have this set up. I have a 2" now, but will go to 3" later. I also have Powermadd handguards, easy to install, functional, and look trick. Got the best deal on them.

I have Sportech handguards and a 2" riser on my 03 LE but I'm shopping for a 3".......once I added the Boss seat it moved me slightly higher and my hands covered up my mirrors. Formerly I could just look under my hands.

anyone have pics of their riser/hanguard setup?
what kind of riser did everyone use, dual pivot or just the standard block riser?

Here is a pic of my RX-1 with sporttech handguards. I just used a 2 inch aluminum block that i made myself.

If you go with the PowerMadd hand guards (my preference), you may want to look into making an extension/shim to get the guards out far enough (by 'out' I mean towards the end of the handlebar, not 'away' from the handle bar)......

...the universal mount leaves too little room to get your hand on the break lever easily, IMO.

Any kind of tubing (metal or plastic) along with a longer bolt will do the trick....I just cut 1.25 " off a $2 toilet tank kit (filler tube piece) and shimmed them out...sounds tougher than it is....nice thing is you can get all the PowerMadd accessories (mirror, oversized guard extension, hand muffs, etc) to go with them.

You can search TY for info/pics or I can get pic of mine, if you like.

Definitely go with Powermadd guards. Here's a pic of mine (for sale) with Nytro seat and Powermadd pivot riser w/ 2" block (3.25" total) and the stock cables should work - even though I have mountain cables on mine.

YAMAHAMMER101,
Happen to have a pic of the riser itself? On the sled or otherwise? I'm thinking you had enough slack in the stock cables for that?

I just put 3" of "Ultra Foam" into my seat and added a 2" riser (Solid) from PowerMadd!
I got the Foam from Joann Fabric's for $20. and I bought a Black and Decker electric knife from Wal-Mart for $9.95. I used Gorilla Glue to bond the cut foam to the original and a staple gun with 1/4" staples to reattach the seat cover.
I had to re-route the throttle cable under the handlebar (It would not work in the original location), also the emergency brake cable had to be moved for more clearance. I also added a cover for the exposed section the riser leaves, I got this from JS Powersports.

I had a 2" powermadd riser with no mods to the cable. I just recently went with a powermadd pivot adapter with a 2" pivot block...there is a difference from the reg. block. Works great and still no mods to the wiring. The pivot adapter allows you to move the bars more forward which allows the stock length cables to still work. Total rise is 3.5 inches, and a more rider forward position. With the pivot adapter, you have to drill out the four holes in the steering stem. No big deal.
