Ok before anyone says anything I did a search and found nothing.
Ok so I replaced my hand warmers with new ones from RSI. RSI States to wire the two wire together to make it a two wire system. So in other words your making a 3 wire hand warmer into a 2 wire. Well I did it and They dont heat up at all. RSI says it dosnt matter what wires you connect to what on the sled. SOOOO I got nothing!!! Anyone help?
I do see that on the harness under the hood the connectors have a black and black and red wire. the other a black wire then a yellow wire???
Im lost

Why didn't you go with the Yamaheaters from Rock?
This is just a general question to you not trying to start anything. From what I found on this site these are the ones to get if you want warm hands if yours don't work.
I have a new vector and if my hand warmers don't work I'm going with the yamahheaters.......Also read that customers service is great........so if you run into a problem he WILL help you, like talking to you on the phone while you work thru the problems if they come up.

Well Ive heard good things about RSI! Thats why. And why spend $150 on yamaha heaters if I didnt have to.
This is right from RSI instructions. I did it this way.
Yamaha (2 Wire): Wire the RSI Blue and White together to make the heater a 2 wire set up. Connect the RSI wires to the Black Yamaha wires. It doesn’t matter which black Yamaha wire goes to the RSI wires.

Everything I've heard says the RSI's work a minimal percentage better than stock. Yamaha's new OEM upgrade kit is essentially the same thing. Don't cheap out....send the RSI's back and get the Yamaheater from Rockmeister. $185, plug and play, everything hooks to the factory connectors. Trust me when I say, if I can do it, anyone can. I'm about the least mechanically inclined individual on the face of the planet.

you have to have something hooked to both yamaha wires. Is there a 3rd wire there somewhere on the rsi. Try calling rsi. I have AC warmers and bars, which rsi makes and they will melt my gloves. Maxdlx

OK I understand.
Thanks and when you get them working lets us know how good they work!!!!!
I might have to get some better hand warmers as I'm not sure if mine work good yet.

Hi Firedowg!
Will help you out here. (NO ONE should freeze!)
If you wire the two elements together, they WILL get hot, however they will fail in a month or two.
(Depends on how much you ride, unfortunately, they will fail when you need them most.)
You want to wire the HIGH elements only into your sled, that way they will last a long time.
Wire between HIGH and COMMON(GND)
Send me a PM with your phone number & I will walk you through how todo it & get you taken care of.

Will I still be able to control the heat with it wired this way? Why would they want me to wire the high and low together then? Right now i got the high/low together and then the ground.

Yes, you will still be able to control the heat with your factory switches.
I don't know exactly why they tell you to wire it that way, maybe so it makes more difference in heat & by the time they fail you have forgotten about it...
PM me your number & we can go over what you need to do to get them working.

Well at idle it wont get warm at all. I put a tester on them and read 0 at idle. When I rev it up it gets to about 6v. Is that normal?

That is pretty much the norm.
The ECU doesn't output enough at lower RPMs to heat much, if at all.
Then once you are moving, you are already cold, so it is hard to catch up.
That is why changing the grips doesn't generally fix it.

You are welcome Shaun!
The 3M crimp butt connectors with shrink sleeving built right into them work pretty well for connections.
ACE hardware sells them.
(Make sure you insulate the wire you don't use from the grips.)
Here's to Warm hands!
Rock
PS If you turn up the idle some to 1300-1500 (When warm), it will help keep your battery charged & the grips a bit warmer.
