just came back from a ride and the hand warmers on my 2010 vector ltx gt stopped working. on full and no warmth at all, the thumb warmer is at just one bar and is almost to hot. any ideas what i should be checking?

Now now guys. Be nice. Not everybody are wusses and need super hot smokin' grips.
Apart from the obvious like the fuse, check near the grip for a broken wire. Grab a copy of your manual and check the wiring schematic. Check the wiring and the grips. It is possible that one of them is defective, affecting both. If a grip is showing an open circuit, it's dead.

FWIW correct me if i'm wrong but if the ECU sees the circuit go open it will give you a fault code

True and the OP didn't mention anything about a code. BTW, since it's a 2010, wouldn't it still be under warranty? I just hope it's not a problem with the ECU itself. Maybe one way to eliminate that would be to hook up a 12V light on the ECU output and see what happens. If it comes one and varies in brightness with engine speed, it's good.

Yeah but it would still light a light. A handwarmer and a light bulb both work on the same principle of resistance except one produces heat and the other light. If it doesn't work, then, yes, go for the oscilloscope.

yes it's still under warranty, but heading out for a 3 day ride this afternoon. not enough time to take it to the shop. i thought yamaha had fixed the hand warmer issue with 2010 models, but i guess i was wrong. there is no code showing. so for the guys with real answers, thanks. i'm heading to the garage now to see what i can find.
