Handguards Apex

how do you get them to fit without moving stuff around. The bars are too curved where they need to be mounted. I couldn't get my sporttech ones to work without hitting the windshield at full turn. Even the Yamaha ones don't fit. They only work on the nytro which has completely different bars.

 Power Madd w/ optional mirrors. They are definatelt the way to go. They go on fine with little moving of existing mounted parts.

It did take a bit of finessing to get to fit. Yes they do hit the Attak medium windslield at full lock but the windshield is flexible and I see no issue....it really just bearly interferes with the shield. On my 03' RX1 my handgaurds hit as well....rode it 4000' miles that way. Now the real question is will they provide enough wind protection to matter or are they just cosmetic? I can say that one of the gratifying things about my previous Yamahas has been never ever having to worry about cold hands ...while my buddies on other brands are complaining. I had only one instance with my RX1 where my brake hand got cold....(I did have a hook on that end of the bar....) but it was snowing sideways....probably -20 degrees below windchill. After that ride I put the handgaurds on my RX1. Did they help? Hard to quantify....I put them on the Attak cause it can't hurt, they look cool PLUS it allowed me to add mirrors!

Is it possible to mount the hand guards to the handlebar INSIDE of the throttle assembly/brake assembly, rather than moving them in by a half inch and mounting in between? Would the handguards be long enough? I don't really care about the hooks being protected.

I'm a little concerned about the cold hands issue too. I usually wear snow-cross gloves with little or no insulation (I hate the feeling of thick gloves). My Vmax handwarmers provided plenty of heat to compensate. The only time I used to get chilled hands was the first 20 minutes of riding or so while the heaters came up to temp.

I ended up ordering the PowerMadd handguards and mirrors, and the Med. windshield. Sure hope I don't have to wear fully insulated gloves too.

I installed my PowerMadd's last night, with the mirrors.

I used 'option 3' in the mounting, and they hit the factory shield a little bit on full turns.

I have a medium windshield coming in this week from Port Yamaha (BTW, they are great to deal with), and am a little concerned that the shields may hit it worse than the low one. I'll let you know.

Also, I had trouble installing it, and had to hammer the handlebar clamp open to get the threaded hole to line up with the arm...took a while to figure out how to make it work.

heres some yamaha gaurds instailed on my attak I did have to bend them a little
