On our 2008 VK Pro, I measure 5/8" free play at the end of the handlebar. It's been the same since we picked the machine up at the dealer but it seems excessive to me.
What free play do you have on your VK Pro?

I have owned 2 vk pros and 06 and an 08 and both have had what seems like too much play in the steering and every vk i have seen has the same so I guess it is only normal.

I thought mine was sloppy and had the dealer adjust some of the play out. It didn't last long though, I guess it's normal play.

Just last week I thought about the steering free-play on my '08 VK. My wife's '07 REV is super tight and even my '04 Switchback has less play than the VK. I'm glad to learn that this is a typical condition because I was going to tear into it at some point.

Ski Free Play
I have had some success in removing the free play
*There is a bolt and nut that backs off on the left hand side under the breather / battery. Hard to get at 14mm. It will not back all the way off as its cottered pinned. I have tighten and place lock tight on it. It has not reloosen to date.
* The steer ing post is sandwiched in a pillow block arrangement under the rad and sometimes requires tightening.
* If you check under the gear shifter there is a telfon bushing that gets sloppy. I have wrapped the bushing and retigten.
I have little play now. The first adjustment will usually correct most of the problem
