Frosty: I have the holtz skid as does most of Kachess sleds The skid seems like the spot to focus. You should check with Kachess and get his thoughts ( or maybe he will chime in soon) I do like the rider forward as I have about 350 miles with it now. I have ordered the fox floats for the front finaly, as I have been fighting a diving issue without the sway bar hooked up. When I get the new shocks on I think it will resolve my isuues as the handling and leverage gained is what I expected.
I do have to get used to being forward on the sled, when I've let off throttle I've almost been over the bars 3 times. I hooked my coat on the bars in a real bad spot, I had to stay in the turbo, dodge trees, and unhook my coat, not an easy task> It coast me a good pair of shorts! but it was worth saving the sled! I have the 3 1/2 riser with stock bars and pivot adapter all are in basic staight line with the post. It is just enough to miss the wind shield that has been cut down 2 in.

I have a question regarding the 153 skid/162 track combination I'm wondering if someone has some thoughts on. On our sleds a 162 track doesn't look particularly long, on a RMK, Cat or Doo a 162 seems much longer. Someone else commented that a 162 RX has less track on the ground than these other sleds, there was quite a post going on about it some time ago. I'm wondering what it is that gives this appearance and how it effects the whole suspension geometry discussion. Are our drive shafts mounted further forward or higher than the competition? I'm going by memory here and wasn't looking for it, but I seem to recall the M7 front mounting location not "looking" much different than what we have with the stock Yammie one. If I get the chance I'll stop in at the local Cat dealer and take a look, tape measure in hand.
No idea if this plays into the handling discussion in any way, more fuel for the fire I guess.

Here is food for thought the RX1 spindles are closer to the food-holds than the old Rev.
It is a short compact sled.

dipping front end
hey rx-hi... saw your post about getting air shocks to stop the dipping. I think the air shocks are pretty good, but they won't stop that. I didn't run my stock shocks w/out a swa bar, so I don't have that for comparison and it may be somewhat better, but going from stock arms/shocks with a sway bar, to the bark buster front end with fox floats and no sway bar, I too am noticing a lot more 'dipping' of the front end. Before my next ride, I'm going to try throwing the sway bar back on to see if it helps...

Nomad: I recomend using a quick pin or take your tools to unhook the sway bar in the mountains. I ran my sway bar while with serch and rescue and it was murder to pull the sled up to side hill. It links together and becomes an anchor! I think Frosty mentioned this also. I unhooked the sway bar and it was much more managable to sidehill and throw around. I know my shocks are to soft as it will bottom out especialy on outside ski during turns and ruts. Let me know how it goes! Keep the rubber side down!

The dipping problem with the front end may be due to a front end that's a bit too narrow. Be sure to try your skis (if you have Apex Mountain skis) are set to outside to make the stance a bit wider.
I went to the Holz lightweight front end that is (if I remember right) 40" wide vs. the stock 38.6 and it seems to roll in the powder just about right. I have my sway bar out and my front shocks with the very minimum amount of spring pressure (I know it doesn't make sense but it helps reduce the rolling tendency) and my Apex skis set to the narrow positon. I would think you could do that with the stock A arms with Apex skis set to the outside and be almost the same width?

Re: dipping front end
Rod,
You do have a sled with the stock shocks for comparison (you just didn't ask about mine). I run the stockers 1" from full preload with no swaybar (have done this since '03/'04 season). Now you just have to recall if mine had any noticable dipping when you rode it.

front shocks
Jim... you say that like the skis ever touched the ground!
Trying to think, but I really don't recall any dipping on your sled, but it's hard to tell. I'd better come back and drive your sled again just to tell for certain...
So, to rx-hi's point, it may actually get a bit worse w/ air shocks... I'm running 110 lbs in mine right now.

Re: front shocks
Rod, They were touching when it was stuck and when it was flooded. I fixed the typo from my first post too (your name ). I don't know how I found the"b" key instead of the "d" key must have been when I typed the last post.
If I'm able to get the sled to the hill and your there; you are allways welcome to try it anytime you want. Unless the guy is an obvious rookie to mtn riding; I try to let as many guys try it out as possible (if they are willing to try it that is).

Great! Nomad I just droped the money for the new shocks! Please do not mess with me like that! 110 pounds I have no clue as to were to start I saw some at 65#. I hope they are worth the money I thought about gtrs but had few replies under suspention. It is a lot of money for shocks I'am expecting a lot from them. I have been in 4 to 6 ft. of powder all week and the sled has run great! This is the best dec. I can remeber for this type of snow! One of my best years for miles to I am close to 500 my o3 now has 2500 miles on it with 2000 under 10# boost with no problems.

I've got the wildchild kit/Apex seat and 151 ZX-2 skid. Weight isn't a huge issue for me so I saved some money and bought an Apex seat. The sled feels great. I have a 2 inch riser and stock bars pulled back slightly. I haven't had much off trail seat time in yet but what I have done the sled feels like its responding better.
