handwarmers

My dealer talked to yamaha about the grips and they said there have been a lot of complaints about them and the problem is when the electric fan kicks in it robs voltage from the grip warmers causing them not to work as well. They are working on a fix now and there will be a bulletin out I don't know when but they are working on a solution.

Calling BS on that theory.. :o|

If the fan ran all the time I could see it being the issue but I don't think the fan runs that often but I can't hear it anyway so I don't know that is what the dealer told me when they talked to Yamaha about my grips.

I say they don't know to be honest with ya. Inconsistent test results with the meter proves there's something out of wack. Either it's the rectifier, stator, or a wiring issue if you ask me, no other explanation as to why there were voltage spikes and drops during testing...

Ohhhh, Up until this it was the efi system, low windshield, cheap goves and poor blood circulation or just that we were all just flat out whiners. Cool, thanks for the update ;)!

I'll take Whiners for $1000 Alex.

Kidding kidding. My warmers are fine, my sleds came in Sept. though. Maybe earlier build was better? Or maybe it's just random. I do know some people have lower tolerances. And that definately could be part of it as well.

NO maybes Yamahnator, there's a REAL problem here ! I wouldn't have taken my sled to the nearest dealer (at 120 kms away one way) for nothing if I didn't truly believe there was an issue with them, especially when compared to an identical FX Nytro RTX riding the same day in the same conditions, and my gloves were like solid blocks of ice, they were actually hard and frozen, while the leather palms of my neighbours gloves were melting to the bars and actually stripped away from the underlying material ! I've owned an 02 Yamaha SXViper a few years back, the handwarmers on that sled were so hot, the bond between them and the bar let go, and they eventually failed due to them spinning on the bar itself ! I'm not saying they need to be so hot that your hands are on fire, but I would expect mine to work as well as my neighbours identical sled !

So your buddy's is fine but yours is not? I wasn't implying that some machines weren't having problems. Wonder what the common demoninator is. Thats why I mentioned that my sleds were fairly early builds. Since I need to get to the gym maybe you need to toughen up those hands, get some calluses goin :tg:

BTW do you still have your 04 R1? I wish I hadn't sold my 04. What a great year. I'm still up in the air about my 07. I had an 06 R6 and the chassis just did not fit me at all.

Neighbour's is fine in cold weather riding, but mine are not even close to his. These are both FX Nytro RTX sleds, his is the 40th, mine is Team Blue/White. Like I said, there's something not right after seeing the test results. There's no way there should be fluctuations in voltage the way we had seen them. 13-18 volts one second, and down to 8 and 10 volts another, all being run on the stand at rpms above 4 grand, it just doesn't make sense.... :o|

As for calluses, I've got more than my fair share and plenty to lend out. Over 15 years training already, if I only had a penny for every pound I lifted... :exc: And yep, still got the R1 ;)! I can truly understand why you wish you still had it. Now, too bad they couldn't jam that motor in the FX Nytro ?!?!?!? If Yamaha really wanted to shock the snowmobile world, that's what I would do !

For somebody call another a whiner because their hands get cold is pretty shady. Of course you are going to have variables of tolerance for each individual (My hands get very cold)....but if they don't work, they don't work. Mine have sucked so far. On mine, there is ZERO measurable difference between low and high. There are times when I hit the button just to make sure I didn't accidentally turn them off.

To make matters worse, when I rode the demo sled in February, I couldn't believe how hot the grips were...I had to turn them down. On that day, we had to ride for 2-3 miles at a very slow speed to get out of town, then only opened it up for 2-3 miles...and the grips were hot the whole time.

There is something wrong with the design....maybe wrong is not the right word....but if nothing else it is inconsistent.

I didn't pay too close of attention to the hotgrip issue until today. This afternoon I rode with a friend who had an '02 Polaris 800 Edge RMK and when we switched at the end of the ride I was shocked by how hot his handwarmers were. His grips were actucally hot and I wanted to turn them down. He also ran a 6" riser so his bars were out in the wind just like my FX Nytro in the single digit temps. My Nytro warmers were turned up all the way during the whole ride and I noticed I kept hitting the button trying to turn them up higher since they were only luke warm. The Polaris grips definitely pumped out the heat. I want that same amount of heat from my sled's bars!

Me too. My handwarmers seemed to work great for a couple months but the last few rides my hands have been nearly frozen. If Yami doesn't fix it I'll just get aftermarket elements or Hotgrips.

I'm experiencing the same Nikolai. It's been a little colder this past few weeks and the hand warmer seems non-existent in cold temps. I can only feel them if I'm wearing my very light aggressive riding gloves, which of course don't help when riding out of the play areas on the groomed trails.

I'm not complaining however, as I still absolutely love this sled. Everyone who tries it is amazed by the power and torque.

Dropped mine off at the dealer today. Handwarmer burnt a hole in itself and made the element not work on the right warmer. Left hand and thumbwarmer are still nice and warm though

My first post and I'm here to complain about horrible my handwarmers are. 08 nytro and 08 phazer both work like crap!

Mine are actually very warm sometimes but then they are cold the next... Tumbwarmer seems to be eaven worse. Drove my dads VK proffesional and damn the tumbvarmer was hot. My vector tumbwarmer was hot aswell but not the Nytro,... Service soon. Ill have them look at it.
