Started the vector today, it ran for a minute on full choke then it died. The sled would not restart unless full choke and some throttle applied. it would not idle. Any ideas?? Just had the carbs cleaned a month ago.

The plugs are probably wasted. I'd be willing to bet a new set would start with no problems at all.

I would go along with rsvectorfreak and change the plugs
thats what I was thinkin too, I'll get em tomorrow. What makes em go bad? Only have 500 mile on her.

Fouling. Most likely caused by warming it up with too much choke. That's about all it can be unless something recently changed with your idle circuit.mk812 said:thats what I was thinkin too, I'll get em tomorrow. What makes em go bad? Only have 500 mile on her.
It's easy to forget to take the choke off properly. That's why I always carry extra plugs.

I have a rage and a vector and have had this problem. I can tell you this, when you foul the plugs they are junk. Buy a new set and your sled will be fine.

FYI, stock plugs are NGK CR9E, around $3.00 at Autozone. Some folks are using CR9EK or CR10EK with good results, less fouling... more power with the 10's. The 10 is one range colder and and the K suffix stands for dual electrode. Do a search for tons of info.

Yamaha recommends CR8E plugs in the Vector.

Why are you leaving the choke on full for that long. I turn mine down to half as soon as it starts and gradually even less as it warms up so it doesn't foul plugs.

The fiche shows the 8, however, my Rage came with 9's installed from the factory.

I have an 05 Rage and an 05 Vector, both purchaed at the beginning of the season last year.
In general, when starting cold, I put the choke at about 3/4 to 7/8. Never full choke. As soon as it starts, back off on the choke to 1/2. Modulate as needed.
They are defintely cold blooded, but once they warm up, it's a bucking bronco!
