I got my GPS for Christmas and now I am looking for a way to hardwire it on the sled with some sort of plug. I was going to use a cigarette lighter plug but heard that with the vibration the plugs come loose and fall out. So here is my plan: I was thinking of getting the wire that they use for the heated shields, running the female plug from the battery to the handlebar like you would a heated shield, then cut the cigarette lighter plug off the GPS accessory plug ( the one that goes from the GPS unit to the cigarette lighter) and somehow splicing on a barrel connector that will mate with the female plug. Anyone know where I can get a wiring harness from a heated shield or something similar?

I hard wired a 12 volt power adaptor, simular to a cigar lighter, to the battery. I then tie strapped the "receptical" to the hinge area of the hood. Then I ran a 12 volt adaptor for the GPS to the receptical. I did it this way so I would have a 12 volt power point. It works good for cell phones, even used it once with a laptop computor, so we could have internet out in the middle of nowhere to make a motel reservation. :4STroke:

Okay... here is what I want to do... Heated shield, power for my communicator and power for my MIFY Xm satillite radio. I see there is 2 xtra slots in the fuse box. Just need the right pin connectors to fit in there and one nice cable from helmet to sled to plug it all in !

Be careful, there is not a lot of extra juice floating around on these sleds. If you blow the main fuse the gauges and headlight will die and the sled wont start after it is turned off. oh and the fuse is under the air box. not fun to change in the trail at night.

If you come off the battery make sure to fuse it as close as possible to the battery.

Is the lack of juice something to be concerned about? I already have a temp guage installed. I would imagine the electrical system is the same on both the RX and RS sleds. Thhe RS's have one less cylinder so would that mean there is a little extra juice?
