Attak seems to make alot of noise at low end speeds and RPM's. Hard to describe: howl/growl not engine noise. Seems to be low frequency type noise. Runs great in every other way. At higher speed don't seem to notice it. Perhaps engine noise covers it up or it goes away. Definitely not in 05 warrior. Anyone else noticed this? Any ideas? thanks, studdog:?: :ORC Running Ice Ripper track. All normal set up issues look OK.

Its the 5000 rpm drone, mine does it too. From what I can tell its just an exhaust system issue, thats why the quieter Rx1 and warriors dont do it. I just ride faster to get past it..lol

There are lots of 05's that do it too.

Mine does it to. It's a harmonic in the exhaust, nothing to worry abought. Mine seems to have improved when I added a softer primary spring and set the secondary to 50 DEG.

Mine does it as well. Glad to see it's not just me. Time will tell if it is more.

It is track noise that harmonics with the exhaust note at certain speed guys there is a whole bunch of threads discussing this very same problem.

Thanks Guys for the replies. At least I'm not crazy yet. studdog
Mine makes a very loud buzzing sound from the area under the top cover. Mostly from 5000 to about 6800 RPM when it either goes away or I cant hear it over the noise. Is that the sound you mean? Mine sounds like a loose piece of plastic buzzing from vibration.

Vice108, Mine seems to be like the noise described in the endless trail of posts that Sleddog referred me to. Real load growling noise. studdog

I am also disappointed with the Attak in the annoying sound of the 4-5000 rpm range which is what I run at often on the tight trails in our neck of the woods, so far I have 290 miles on it and the sound is not getting better...my 05 Rage never bothers my ears at any speed - I think it is in the engine tuning and will contact my dealer and Yamaha to see if they have any suggestions like
studdogs adjusting primary spring and set the secondary to 50 DEG.
ear plugs
Am I the only guy that always wears earplugs? I have always found it to be much less tiring on your whole body.
You can get some of those wax swimming plugs at CVS and they block out almost all noise. You will think your sled is electric!

Heck,I use the earplugs when listening to my wife, why not try it for another annoying sound? Great Idea! studdog

harmonic vibrations can be tuned out.Harmonic vibrations are two vibrations running into each other. All you have to do is change one of them.GM does it with weights.Like they may put one on the exhaust and move it up or down on an exhaust to change the frequency and the drone will be gone.

inline 4 cylinder engines can do this, and you have an exhaust system running over the tunnel which is basically a drum (acoustic amplifier).
When riding with the wife and kids at about 20-30 MPH (only time it is loud and it bothers me) I had another thought. Reminds me of a multi-engine prop aircraft when the speeds of the engines dont match exactly at cruise.
So the thought is a throttle body sync could help.
That is when an out of sync will show up the most, high vacuum small throttle openings. Just a guess, but it could help
IMPORTANT if you try this, check sync at idle AND small throttle openings.

I wonder if this is only with the Attak model because of a longer tunnel. While riding today I tried to listen where the annoying sound is coming from and it is in the tunnel . I have not taken my seat off to see if there is the possibility of supporting the pipes or insulating them??
