I'm with you MM but I guess it depends on what type of snow your riding on.

it's not the 1 1/4....it's this track and its design or lack thereof..
I believe it was supposed to be a no compromise product and instead offers the most compromise in the area most want with an 1 1/4 track....deep snow bite without trenching...now part of this is caused from the steep approach angle of our rails....but all brands have complained about the trenching..
also...camoplast "sells" just like any other manufacturer...selling the benefits to the o.e.m. sled makers....doesnt mean it's true...often trying to sell something "new and improved" to keep the "fever" going on new model sleds...after all there are less sleds being sopld every year...and that means less tracks...so they need to keep the hype up!
an example of this is the closed every third window...trying to tell us it holds snow in and saves weight...in reality it keeps the snow out...and creates friction (rubber on plastic doesnt mix) and thereby part of our rapid hyfax wear...I believe it is a money saver for them..less steel...less cost...
take a poll of those who have run the ripsaw in comparison to other 1" and 1 1/4 tracks...those in the know will vote for other camo tracks..

And maybe how bad you'd like it "your way"?
Been riding a long time. Spoiled maybe, but getting used to personalizing my sleds "my way". Anything right off the showroom floor is always going to be full of compromises. Your best coice is just going to be the one closest to your expectations? That's how I approach it anyway. FWIW

Has anyone tried the DURASPORT 1187 with long studs? We have used the DURASPORT .725 with 1.250 studs/chisels with good results for fun racing. (turbo sled application) It seems that the 1187 would hook up hard with all the surface area but it is still studable. Trenching could be a problem, but with the turbo you can spin the track so hard it doesn`t seem to be an issue. (at least with the .725 version) Weight can be a issue, but again with high HP it doesn`t make much difference in comparison to the need to hook up. I have talked with some who have used this track and really like it.

yes..this is my desired thought...I figure the longer stud with trimmed lug would yield greater hook/bit and really couldnt trench in the loose much worse than it already does...

I trimmed my 136" down to 1" for better stud penetration. I am using stud boy 1.280. Hookup on ice and hard pack is better and did not notice much of a difference in loose snow.

Ripsaw and I just used a sharp knife. Takes about 30 minutes to do the hole track. I also lowered my tunnel protectors about 3/8".

SJ, I would not screw with cutting the lugs. Find a Predator and run that instead. Much better track all around for what you are looking to do and you can run the same studs or run 1.175" studs and still get almost 1/2 penetration with that combo.

so you're suggesting a 1" pred with 1.175's????

- Which one? I have 6
ahicks said:I am not a fan of the Ripsaw at all. Too much side bite for hard play in the twisties for me. I replaced the Ripsaw on the Apex with a Cobra because they said it was a little looser in the corners. I don't agree with that but found the extra traction with it just incredible, so I'm staying with that one there.
Recently picked up a 600 Fusion for a back up sled, with another Ripsaw(damn!). I'm going to cut that one down on the outsides a little at a time to try and get it to turn as the season opens. If that doesn't show much promise, it's history too......
Edit: SJ - by the way, I'm on Pontiac Lk...
Just don't run any studs on the outside lugs. That will help you turn better.

Yes, if your looking for better handling and traction. The 1.175's on a 1"predator give outstanding traction. 1/2 penetration give or take a 1/32. Cutting the ripsaw is a desparate measure for penetration, and now you just lost traction of the track itself, with almost the same rotating mass. To do it properly, is what I'm talking about and run a 1" pred with 1.175's Megs or Goldiggers. This is the same setup that RockerDan runs on his RTX and it works well for him on the trail and the lake.
If you want great penetration on a Ripsaw, then bolt in 1.450' Woody's. That's what I run in my GT and it hooksup awesome. I ran 1.325's before that and it was not even close to the hookup that I have now.

sj said:personally dont care for it compared to the predator tracks or even an old polaris lightning...lol
figure it wont be much worse in traction on the loose and will hook like a female dog with 1.380's on the hard stuff?
has anyone trimmed the lugs to an inch?
if so what was your results...is it even worth it?
I believe your 1.380's are the same as 1.325 woody's... That's your problem.

1.175" will give you good traction but if you want really good traction you need to use a 1.280" or 1.325"
