I'm newer to the four stroke world and I was wondering how often the head gaskets go out on a stock nytro motor? I know some people have put on over 10000 miles on these motors so just wondering if this is a common thing or not.

It's not a normal problem unless you overheat them.

Ok good to know! I was looking at my antifreeze and it looked a tad darker then the bright green new stuff so its probably time for a flush. The level hasn't gone up or down and the sleds not blowing smoke out the rear end. It's defiantly not the brown color you get if they go out!

These engine's run clean. Don't count on grey exhaust smelling antifreeze. They will be pushing it out the overflow bottle when you run them but not blow anything when idling. My 08 had been over heated before I got it and it took some time to run it down. I have put over 7000 trouble free miles since I fixed it.

I've done a few head gasket on these engines due to overheating. The ones I've worked on had warped the head so that combustion gas entered the coolant. When this happens the system pressurizes to the point that coolant is pushed out of the reservoir. If doing a head gasket replacement the head should always be checked and corrected if warped.

Ok well luckily I have lost any coolant and I have never overheated it. Mostly off trail deep snow and I have a lot of vents to push air through. I was just wondering how often it does happen.
