Wondering if aftermarket exhaust lowers the temperature of the header pipe right off the manifold or not?

In the process of closing front tunnel, getting too much ice build up.

Heat shielding looks 100%.

I talked to a good friend about closing up that front shield. Reccomends not to close off.
I totally get the ice build up. The 07 build up like crazy and the xtx I vertically have nothing. I can't remember what 71rdrnr's was like on the last ride.
I don't know if it lowers temp or not but idling I got a reading of 240C up front. Dropping to 180's at base of the Y, then dropping in temp from there. Inside, again, only idling 100ish.

I'd upload the vid I took of that but It will take forever. Screen shot of the vid :)

The wife's Phazer is fully blocked off with no problems.. If you wrap it then you're definitely safe.

I read more and more about people closing them up without trouble, I am going to try it and keep an eye on the heat shielding to be sure. Fabbed this up yesterday. (11.25"W x 13.5"L). Laid it in place and traced the header shape, drilled a bit of holes spaced 2cm apart, might get a little ventilation this way.

Hoping this will help the ice build up. Snow throws up there, melts and makes the footholds very very wet.

I have a 2010 RTX completely stock and ice buildup is minimal.

Ok its in, hoping to test it out this weekend and see how the snow/ice buildup goes. I trimmed the shroud as recommended by some others (the one that has rubber covering the sides of the tunnel, near the front under the seat/gas tank area)

Looks great Mike. Let us know how it holds up. I bought my first rivet gun yesterday and it broke already. I may try the block off as well. Only reason is notice that little block off piece on your stock exhaust, that usually stopped snow from getting drivin in towards the motor, the Hindle header doesn't have that piece. I'm a bit worried on snow and ice build up in that void below tank/engine area.

Been running fully blocked off tunnel for years now. No issues at all. I do inspect the expensive fibre shields and have replaced two now that have brokein pieces. Last time I added another layer of aluminum to sandwich the fibre material. Time will tell if that helps keep that fibre together.

Stock and Hindle header.
My guts telling me to block it off. Boondocking, ice build up, freezes, then ride again couple hours later a hunk frozen in there could do some damage where as the stock block off at least prevents from freezing up around a corner of you know what I mean.
