Loads of topics mine has a twist.
07 Phazer GT 7000km, prior owner replaced the straight bars with a 2008 set of risers. I purchased shortly after, he had indicated the warmers were rather weak and I got a code 81 on my first ride but has not come again. There is zero heat on the grips.
Could the 08's have higher resistance? They measure 7.2 and 7.8 left to right.
Any help is welcome.
Thanks

The right one's resistance seems a bit high (should be between 6.12-7.48)but not so much to make it throw a code. Did you also check for shorts to ground on the handlebar?
Could also be possible that you need the update wire harness for the '08 bar, part #90891-50150-00

Have not pulled the grips yet, I've actually been trying to find a set of 07 bars in case that is the issue, local guy wants $100 bucks which is redic for used.
I can call the local Yamaha dealer to see if they can supply the new harness update. Old owner said the stick bars worked well but they sold on another sled.
I'll drill the rivet and check if there are any other issues.

You don't need to remove the grips. Put one test lead on the bar and then the other on one of the grip wires and then the other. Should not read anything (infinite). Repeat for the other side. Likely your grips are fine, just missing the wire harness.
BTW, where are you located? You should add your location to your profile.

If you check the classifieds, RuggyBuggy is parting out a whole Phazer if you still want to change your bar unless you get this one to work. You could just replace the warmers if they are defective.

Thanks no continuity between the bar and warmer.
Did not find the part out you mentioned, reached out to another in Hamilton but bar was sold. I'll see if one of my local dealers has the Series Harness, the code still is a little worrisome.
Thanks a lot.

Another way to tell if the grip is the problem is to plug it into the other sides power source. If the problem grip stays put then the grip/wiring is bad. If it switches to the other side I would look elsewhere before spending money.

Both are out
End of season so time to put things right. Will check Mooseman's suggestion with the updated harness and see how that goes.
Thanks

Not getting any voltage out of the grip connectors on the sleds side?

Thanks for the mention Mooseman but I just sold the handle bars.

Measured voltage on both sides, we know the voltage is low on idle and increases with throttle. Around 4k I get 6 or so volts to the grips. With the sled running on the stand I can feel a really faint amount of heat nothing that you would ever feel at -20 with gloves on, the throttle is hot as hell you cannot touch the thing. I am hoping the harness will solve the issue the resistance as far as I can see is normal.
Still open to other ideas, great supportive community here!

This is all good stuff, my right grip is out, so I will be running all the tips above.
But I have an added wrinkle. I cannot turn off the thumb warmer, hard to stay in the throttle when it burns you up! Any ideas, related to the grip issue?

They are 2 separate circuits, do you see the bars move on the console when you activate the thumb switch?

Yep, the bars move, I go to "off", no bars. Still wants to blister my thumb thru the glove. Thinking abut heavier gloves.
It is looking like a summer of sled maintenance for me, looking forward to it all. But the grips and thumb are high on the list.
