Heated Grips

That is bizarre about the thumb warmer. Same as the handwarmers, it's controlled by the ECU directly using pulse width modulation (PWM). This video shows how it works:

Although it shows what happens with RPM (which explains why they get cold while idling), the ECU controls it the same way when you turn them down. At zero bars, there should be nothing. Although I have never tested this, I might be wrong but at the very least the PWM should be so short that it would produce an insignificant amount of heat.

One of these days, I'll buy an oscilloscope and play with this to help others with diagnosing the grips and thumb warmers.

Measured voltage on both sides, we know the voltage is low on idle and increases with throttle. Around 4k I get 6 or so volts to the grips. With the sled running on the stand I can feel a really faint amount of heat nothing that you would ever feel at -20 with gloves on, the throttle is hot as hell you cannot touch the thing. I am hoping the harness will solve the issue the resistance as far as I can see is normal.

Still open to other ideas, great supportive community here!

If you are getting 6V to each grip and feeling a bit of heat, then the harness will send 12-14V to each grip, increasing the amount of heat.

Interesting video. I don't have the sled here to look into it now. Probably next week before I can get to it.

I actually stopped a few times last ride to cycle the control, it would just not shut down.

I guess the first thing is to check all the wiring and ground connections,

Thanks Mooseman, will get to my local dealer and grab the harness.

I think you are looking for the harness to hook them up in parallel.

Parallel would supply both grips with the 12v as opposed to 6 volts each.

So, the harness worked?
