Helix change

So ive been hearing that running a 51/43 apex helix works very well. So im gonna try this instead of the 47. Thanks guys!

Keep us updated, I'm interested in that helix aswell!!

I got the chance to try it out quickly with the smaller rollers. At a wrap of 6-2 it killed my rpms. Around 8400. I'm going to test on Tuesday on a lake up north. Can't wait. I'll let you guys know. I hope buying that helix wasnt a waste!

I tried a 48/42 on mine and it also brought the revs down to around 8400 rpm, low and didnt feel like it pulled. I am not sure whos helix it is though,as i hear some are cut more aggressive than others, mine is a shiny gold color with the angles engraved on the ramp. Anyone know?

Sounds like a Dalton helix.. A 48/42 Dalton will perform almost identical to a stock Aex 51/43 helix.

Ya i just can't seem to get the stock apex 51/43 to work. Brings the rpm way down. The stock 43 works great for me with a black spring d&f setup and 14.5 rollers and a 20 top gear. I'll tell you more after I test on the lake on Tuesday.

Keep in mind that the primary spring (may need to have more spring rate) and gearing also affects what helix may or may not work. Lower gearing is not a bad thing for clutch to run more effecient. A lot of times gearing up is only good for wide open or lake racing with slimmer snow conditions for top end. If you add 2-4" of snow to a groomed trail even that has an effect on the load to the secondary clutch.

I have a 07 Phazer MTX and last year with a 17/41 (2.41) gearing, 8 tooth drivers and a 1.75" X 14.25" X 144" Back Country track and I seen 75 mph. This year I have the same setup as above with 9 tooth anti ratchet drivers instead and seen 75 mph also. The bigger drivers are equal to going up 2 teeth in the gear case on the top gear. I will be gearing it to a 17/45 (2.65) to get more efficent on the clutches and belt. The low to mid snap is not near the same as last years setup that's while I gear it equal to last year.

I have a Phazer with a YVX secondary clutch and it came with a 51/43 helix that I put on at the end of last year. To my amazement the Phazer pulled up to 72 mph which is what I had on the stock junker secondary from the 1980's. My rpms were a bit low 10,900 instead of 11,300 at WOT. But that thing pulled like a beast for only 80 HP, it just so happened I fell into a close setup with the stock mountain components. Now I have many options with the YVX secondary than with the stock UFO looking junk secondary that I roasted. Just some added info into the endless world of clutching. The goal efficiency, efficiency, efficiency leads to cooler running clutches and longer belt life and a win in the performance column.

So what are your engagment RPMs with the 14.5 rollers?

Well with the Turks black spring setup and the 14.5 rollers I'm seeing 3600 ish for engagement. But I'm running the stock helix in the secondary wrapped at 6-2. I'm still trying to figure out a good drag setup with the red spring. I'm gonna set the wrap to 3-3 and try my base setup. It's a little trickier as the small rollers really affect what I used to run. They make my weights act heavier but there is no belt slip.

If I just install the 14.5 rollers what will my engagement be and what will my top rpm be.
