Help deciding on skis

What are the down sides to the c&a skis? Do they dart and increase steering effort? I like the " not push to the bush" feature that weapon x described but wonder why more people don't like them.
 

I bought C@A TraillX with 6" Shaper bars for my FX and i could not move the bars when i backed it off the trailer to maneuver around my trailer and someones truck. They are that hard core! I changed my set-up about 3 times to adjust for the new skis, and ended up near factory stock settings, lol, go figure.
Don't know how they are compared to others, but they turn, that much i can tell ya!

I am running Powder hounds with 6" sharpers. I pulled my limitar strap tighter a hole and the inside ski will lift before it pushes. Very predictable and i love em on and off trail. I would buy again.
 
I am amazed at the amount of confidence in steering the C&A's give me but they are a little harder than stock skis to turn.
 
Thanks for the replies so far. Yeah I guess a big part of the problem is someone elses "too aggressive" may be just right for me (or vise versa) or someone elses hard turning may be fine....just can't tell.
From what I've been reading though, the C&A's tend to be almost too hard biting for rider forward type sleds (work great but heck on your arms), I've read the same thing about the USI X2's.

Interested in the Slydogs, probably 6" shapers and maybe some ski savers? Doing 95% trail, is it worth it to get the powderhounds or would the race skis be fine?

Also interested in the Curves...reviews peg these as the best all around skis. But they'd run $200 over the Slydogs for a set. I can do alot of other thigns to the sled with that $200. But maybe they really are just that much better?

Anyway, thanks again, will keep checking back for any additional opinions/ideas.
 
Well, I ran my options past a friend and he did what any good friend would do....told me to go with the more expensive ones! Actually, he just told me to go with whichever ones seemed like they'd suit me better, disregarding price. I've read tons of good reviews of the slydogs and plenty of OK to bad reviews as well. I think alot of it has to do with specific setup. I've seen a higher percentage of good reviews for the Curves, especially regarding predictability, so that is what I am going with. Now, just got to wait another year to try em out. Bummer.
 
I just got SLP Powder pros for mine.

Heres a review. If you wants to be able to turn, total control and being able to go faster around the corners, then they are awesome.

They need slightly more steering effort than the stockers on hard trails when going in old ski-trails. But they are easy to turn in both powder, and when being first on the trail. But damn, they turn! Made me go approx 12 mph faster in corners without a sweat (didn't feel comfortable with the old ones). So much grip that the Phazer would tip long before they would push in a corner. Turns very well even in powder. For me they are slightly wrong, I would have wanted the stockers steering effort and loose of grip but better floatation. But they are good enough to make me want to keep them. I think they works very well on the Pz.

A little tight to mount with the stock rubbers but it's doable!
 
I just picked up some SLPs powder Pros
I road in some powder last week end with the stock skis
and had my sled in places I should have never been .
they worked OK for stock ,but there more snow coming this week so i picked up these SLPs to hit the trail with this weekend
skis are not that hard to change so I think it depends on the conditions
for the best ski's for that day
I 'll let ya know what i think after this week end on how i like them .
I also removed the sway-bar ,not sure if it a good idea but most the guys riding powder said to lose it for those conditions .

What are you riding - that Yamaha ski with the metal saddle doesn't look like it is from a current Phazer??
Do you have pics of the bottom profile of the SLP skis. I believe they have a very different bottom profile that helps them turn well in powder but are harder to steer on the trail than stock skis. The steering effort of the Slydog PH's are so much better than the 5" stock skis on trail it is night & day. But off trail in powder they don't steer as well as I would like. So deciding between the PH's or PP's may be a matter of where do you ride more - on trail or off?? And as others say, what works for one will not necessarily work for others.

I have the same skis, but used 7.5 Shapers. Mine was really aggressive and still darted a little. I think your carbide set-up would be a better choice.
