Hi guys, hoping to get schooled here about the Yamaha Venture. I’ve been casually looking for a 2 up machine for my wife and I to enjoy riding together. I had posted my 2011 Yamaha Nytro fo sale or trade fo ski doo grand touring. I just re entry had a fellow message me offering to trade his 09 Yamaha Venture GT for my Nytro with 8500km. He says his Venture has 18,000km.
I would appreciate any knowledge that you guys could share on Yamaha 2 up machines, what’s good, what’s not and why. Thank you

that is same motor as your nitro but tuned less agressively. that is a pre eps sled. brother had same sled with eps. set up they handle the trail well but are not agressively clutched as it is a comfort touring sled. not a top speed sled at all but will hit 90mph 2 up in right conditions. all around it was a good sled once we modded it lightly.
mods we did where
swap bar riser for 2011 apex riser for +2" height
swapped stock skis as not agressive enough for local conditions
put agressive clutching on to wake it up corner to corner
a arm and belly pan protectors
rear rack for carrying small gas can.

I can research myself but easier to ask. What year did the venture go EPS,? I’ve never rode a snowmobile with power steeering, I’m assuming it’s a big difference.

the vector/venture sleds went eps in 2013. makes a big difference when using agressive skis.

2006 Yamaha RS venture
Yamaha RS venture 2006 avec 6100 km seulement ( strarter et batterie neuf , roulette du pont neuf ) rien à faire dessus
Seen this, kilometers seem low, I thought the price was pretty fair for the kilometers but I’m not familiar with the 973 . What are your thoughts on the 973 and of this machine for us?

Yamaha Ski Doo 2006
Four stroke three cylinder with reverse only 5600 km runs excellent new battery $3600 or best offer
Anyways I took it for a drive and really like the way it handled on the trail but noticed while driving that the one mirror was broken off, and there was 2 holes around the instrument panel, also the heated grips and thumb didn’t seem to heat up, which reminds me the control for the heated grips was glitchy, like it wasn’t making good contact and had to be pressed hard for it to show on the display.
Anyways, I got stupid and offered 1800.00 die to the damages over the phone with Rob the owner, he said no, if he couldn’t get 2500.00 he would keep it to have for kids and grandkids, I went up to 2000.00 which I thought was my max due to everything l, he still said no. Then as I was driving away, about 3 kms down the road I tried one last stab at for 2200.00 but while I was typing the message it sold. Gave him a quick call, and he said that while I was driving there his neighbour offered full asking price of 2500.00 which is why I guess I couldn’t negotiate at all. He was a nice stand up guy though and kept his word to me allowing me first crack even though he got the full offer while I was driving there.
Anyways, one good thing that came out of it, is that I got to drive an 06 venture and I liked it, so now I’m not stuck only looking at SKI Doo grand tourings.

the last 2 you posted are carb versions of the venture. they are fairly bulletproof as there are a few site members with pretty dang high milage on them. they are more cold blooded than the efi sleds and need to be warmed up before you ride. as to the hand warmers, yamaha doesn't put out full voltage to the handwarmers until you are trail cruising. applys to both driver and passenger. the carb ventures where availble in canada from 2005-2018 from what i can find/remeber.

I’m always a little worried when there are minor issues like the hard starting when cold or as he says won’t start when cold but I feel I need to go look at it and buy it if it does start and run good because of the 6083 kilometers. Most I look at in and around that year have 17,000 up to 27,000 km and I’ve seen them with 34,000km. And usually posted for 2500.00 to 3000.00 with 17,000km
Just looking for some insight, what to look for when I’m there, if it runs good, would you buy regardless of the hard cold start?

See previous post please. I also think I can see studs, they should not have come with studs. What would the original track have been? Any markings I can look for? Would it be Camooplast?

oe track is a 1.25" camoplast/camso ripsaw with no studs.
odds are the bearing he did is speedo bearing as it needs to be repacked or replaced every few years.
with that low km, it is barely broken in. i would check that the timing chain tensioner has been up dated as it was a known issue on those years. it might have a quirk for cold starting as i know my old rx had to have the choke full for almost 1 min before i could start lowering it. might have too thick oil in it too as those prefer 0w40 yamalube to let them spin faster for starting. those motors actually prefer 87 gas over 91. i usually store the carb ones with 91 with seafoam to stabilize them and start them every month. i would not be scared of that one.

So he called me back, said his mechanic was over and looked at it, said the last guy to take it out had the air box off to check the oil I think and didn’t put the oil stock back in, that’s my guess anyways, very tough for me to decifer exactly what’s happened since I’m not familiar with this machine and th fellow that owns it is French. So he said he went to start it tonight and noticed oil dripping and then the light on, messaged me right away saying there is a light on and I better not come tomorrow, so that’s good sort of, then he said it didn’t run long with the light on at all and that his mechanic said it is fine. I’m going to make the trip even though part of me doesn’t want to now but I just need to know, and I like to drink coffee and smoke so the rice won’t be to horrible.
I think I should be checking the oil canister over good? For cracks. I’m going to take paper towel with me to wipe up any oil if there is any in the engine bay, Check the oil, take it for a drive, hopefully there is some trails because I would like to drive it at least 5km if I can and then check the oil again.
I’m going to jack the front end up to Che k the bushings, oh and he says he will give me a 30 day warranty on the motor? Anyways I guess we will see tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the guidance, appreciate it
