I got the stage 2 from Ulmer today. I got the primary no issues.

But the secondary is giving me fits. The brass sleeve has the helix stuck tight. It became an issue when I brought it in the house to have my wife give me a hand while I held the buttons off the ramp as the directions.

I tightened each nut very slowly as to not kink it. Now its just friggen stuck there. Belt is stuck down in the secondary and it has no intentions of moving. I thought i would get it on the sled and let it run it would loosen up. But NOPE.

Major issue. No idea where to start. I cannot get the helix back off the secondary.

I dont know what to say..... Every time I read it I start laughing.

But really, you have it put together wrong. I'm not sure exactly what your talking about but a yamaha secondary doesnt have any brass parts in it.

Just call Allen tomorrow and have him walk you through it :) Eric

At some point the helix got tightened down further on one side than the other and is binding up on the hub & bushing. Remove the three (3) nuts and remove helix, check bushing in center of helix and make sure it's not damaged and reinstall. Wiggle, giggle, pull, to get the helix off. Also make sure you wound helix clockwise (to the right) when installing it. It will slide smoothly when installed correctly.

I got the secondary sheeves completely apart and the helix is still stuck.

This is crazy I have all three bolts off it and it wont even budge.

You gotta take a picture of this. You must have the helix jammed into the towers? I cant really picture what your talking about. Eric

Well its apart.... now I cannot get the ulmer or the stock helix to slide over it with out major muscle... this is crazy. This was supposed to be simple. I have worked on race cars my entire life and fight with something so stupid.

Wow; I change helix,s up to 10 times a day with no problems. I can swap one out in about 3 minutes while it,s still on the sled.....2 minutes if it,s removed.

Are they going on hard with the spring on? They usually take some effort to get them into place with the spring in place. Maybe one of the studs are bent?

Well... its fixed. I did have to take some Corcus (sp) cloth and polish up the shaft.

Im not exactly sure what happened. The stock one wouldnt go back on either. I dont know if it was a little out of spec from Yamaha or what.

I know its not difficult I have done many clutches this was just giving me fits. Then doing it in an unheated shop and leaving for trip soon really had me panicking.

Im glad everyone is so much better than I am, and has taken the time to point that out...LOL

I knew it shouldnt have been difficult and only a few minute swap. But something got funky... seen it racing too, something should be pretty simple turns into a nightmare. Too many things were working against me tonight.

Regardless its on, running fine. Seemed to really waken the sled up, the few feet I drove it. The nice thing is it still engages nice and easy at part throttle for loading and unloading.

thanks folks.... just needed to vent and hear options.

I need a beer!
