Hi all,new to the forum here but hoping i can find some help, nobody seems to know the answer...even the dealer!!
I have an 08 nytro fx rtx, with 8,000 miles it was time to check out/replace the drive shaft bearings.
my question is does anyone know how to re-install the chain(no smart remarks please....keep reading)..
the chain has 2 marked(marked as in the 2 links outer plates are a copper color) one link spacing apart but ONLY HAS THE MARKED LINKS ON ONE SIDE OF THE CHAIN......
somebody suggested the marks (whether facing in or out)would obviously affect the direction on the chain....I tried to attach pic of it but file was too big:(.....SEE UPDATE>>>>>PIC ATTACHED
so question is.....marks facing out?or in??
Maybe it doesnt matter but would feel much better knowing if theres an answer out there!!
Thanks in advance!!
lets all pray for snow
UPDATE!!>>>>>>SEE PICS

That's the master link ....it doesn't matter what way it goes if it's a new chain and gears .

but why would there be two??and a reason fro the different color?I`m not replacing chain or gears just reinstalling it..
finally was able to upload pic.
I just want to make sure that if it makes a difference that i put it back on the right way

Like 09Nytro said it is the master link. That chain is not a Yamaha chain. Yamaha chains do not have copper master links. It would ideally be best to re-install it the same way it came out, but in all reality it is not going to make any difference as long as the gears and chain are in good shape. When new the chain itself is not directional. Now it has been ran in the same direction for a number of miles so I always try to put it back in in the same direction if I can. But if I put the chin in a bag to store it or wash it and lose the orientation I just install it, not worrying about the direction.

Another thing you can check for, is on the inside of the chain, one side of the links might be shinier than the other side. This would be the side the the gear is pulling on when driving the sled. You should see that one side of the teeth on the gear have a little more shine to them as well. But like the others said, it doesn't matter which way you put it together. As long as the chaincase oil is changed regularly, there shouldn't be much, if any, wear. I always use yamalube products in my sled.

Really am appreciative of all the help here!!
